Best pick for a working musician on the market.
I used to use Fender medium rounded picks years ago and had to replace them constantly because the edges would get really jagged and I would have to file them smooth to keep them from getting snagged and jerked out of my hand on a gig, then it didn't take long before I had to do it again. I tried many different brands of picks and finally found the Clayton picks and I have never… read more felt the need to switch again. if I don't lose one or if someone doesn't accidentally walk away with it, these picks last me a long, long time.
The perfect bass pick
I come from the upright bass and play hard. Really hard. My finger style sounds like all slapped notes. My Bartolini soapbox pickups actually have grooves dug into the pickup covers from my slamming my fingers down into the pickups. Harder is louder is better right? Wrong. When I started playing with a pick, the .88mm Tortex picks gave me the really solid feel and I felt like I… read more could really dig into the strings. Too much, in fact. With pickups, a weird thing happens where above a certain amplitude, your picked note actually becomes quiet, and you lose all your bottom end. Something about compression... I don't know, I am not an electrical engineer, just a bassist. These .63mm picks have the perfect amount of give. They bend away from the string and can only be loaded with so much pressure before giving way to the string, so you don't get "blown out" notes-- it's just physically impossible. My notes sound fuller, and I still get that sharp attack. Plus the triangle shape gives you 3 tips to chew threw, per pick-- which is a good cost efficiency.
LA player
Hard to find that RIGHT pick. Love the Tortex, but not the price. Gave Clayton a try and it's my one and only now. $$ price is great too.
Love these picks
I've been using this brand for awhile, but the large triangle size is my favorite so I don't drop it and it has 3 sides in case it spins on your hand. Bought a bunch of them.
