It’s what I’m going to use for a while
I've had the best amps and cabinets and MANY of them at the same time. More cabs than any one man could ever want. I recently decided to downsize and just use a helix through my DAW. Needless to say I missed my amps and cabinets. I needed something to calm my spirits. I almost decided to go back to some amps and cabs. Then I finally gave the helix another shot with one of… read more these. I'm impressed! Is it perfect? No. Does it sound great? Yes Have I tried other powered FRFR cabs. No But I've used PA's with modelers. This cab sounds better to me. It is dark but nothing some EQ tricks can't handle. I'm assuming (this being said) it colors your sound a bit as opposed to mixers and DAW settings. But for me I'm just using this cab so no big deal and not a deal breaker. I'll be getting another one soon!
5/5 Star
I have tried a few FRFR cabs, from the Headrush to the Gemini 2, and this is the BEST! This thing actually sounds like a 2x12 or maybe a 4x12 pushing air. I was running my Helix into a power amp and into a Mesa 2x12 but I wanted an option where I didn't have to keep changing my presets to take out the IR depending on where I was playing or what I was playing through. Well this thing… read more is so good I sold my Mesa because it was not needed. I have no cons to list. The Pros are the direct to the PA out (however, it is gigging loud by itself), the clipping light, the absolute clarity, the cab looks great, comfortable handle, no popping when turning the cab on/off, the low cut is very useful, and this thing sounds absolutely huge. Now I am not saying this thing is better than my 2x12 Mesa, but it is just as good. If it last as long as a Mesa this will be a huge win. Dave Friedman knows what he is doing.
Two Is More Than Twice As Nice
I now have two of these I use with my Kemper. They make for a beautiful wall of sounds!
No Small Thing
I use this with a Kemper. It weighs 60 lbs. The amp (bi) is a monster and of the most elegant design. Friedman is famous for his custom tube amps for the stars, but the Kemper can sound indistinguishable from any tube amp with this box. Be aware it is bigger in every dimension than a 2x12" cab. I will likely never hear this at full volume, but it sounds great at every volume… read more I have tried, Easy to practice without burning down the house while maintaining the punch the great speakers provide. I am going to buy another to take advantage of the stereo effects of the Kemper.
Love it!
This thing rocks! I've been looking for something to pair with my Line 6 Helix...I've tried FR/FR monitors and going direct through my tube head using the 4 cable method. Finally my search is over...this thing sounds just like a speaker cab being driven by my tube head. It has the boom boom/balls that I couldn't seem to get with the JBL and QSC monitors I tried. Some reviews… read more said the cab sounded dark...I disagree. The cab sounds plenty bright and brings the low end thunder as well. Perfect for my tastes. Get one!
