Great open tuning axe.
After impulse buying this guitar, I realized gigging woth it as a standard six string wasn't going to happen. It's a simple guitar, and its tinny sound, I quickly realized, was better suited to open tunings. Open D, G, DADGD, etc. all sounded good. I started using it on backing track recordings as a banjo "substitute". I even put Nashville tuning strings on her. That tuning REALLY… read more brought out, and effectively used, it's tinny nature. I keep this guitar close at hand...kind of like a parlor guitar. It's grown on me considerably.
Cool axe
I picked this up because it seemed a bit different, with the piezo and the lipstick. I also love the Danelectro vibe (have a 59 Divine too). The workmanship, fit and finish are top notch. The neck feels good and I like that it is satin and not gloss. I dropped 1/2 star because I didn't think the blending really worked that well between the two pickups. But no problem, I pulled out… read more the pot, replaced them and wired as two volumes (one on each pickup) and a master tone. If wired properly, the volume for each pickup can then be taken to zero individually. So now I can truly blend in each of the pickups. I also replaced the knobs with chrome Tele knobs and IMO I love the look better. I also replaced the string with an acoustic "hybrid" set that has 10, 13, 17 for high strings for nice bends, but 30, 42, 52 for low stings for solid bottom end. Is it great as just an acoustic.. of course not, it's smaller and thinner than a typical acoustic (but that also makes it nice to hold). But it's good enough to play without plugging in. Then plug it on and you get an awesome range of tone. From straight acoustic to single coil jangly lipstick and anything in between. To me, it's a real keeper
