Silence!
Bought a 1984 Original Floyd Rose to replace the "By Floyd Rose" that the guitar came with, what I forgot was to order these springs at the same time. Every time the trem was used it sounded like a Motel 6 Honeymoon Suite bedsprings! These springs are worth every penny you pay for them, silence is priceless.
Noiseless Springs
Does a good job at what it supposed to do, what powder coating does chip
Reduced noise - high tension
I ordered these to solve three issues, 1- reduce ring, 2- reduce the number of springs, 3- better tuning stability. Like most of my trem guitars I had been putting foam earplugs between the springs to dampen them from ringing when palm-muting with hi-gain amps. I got these for my 7-string with FR using 10-62 strings, this one I don't down tune so I need a lot of tension. I also… read more installed a Schaller Sure Claw which only has 3 spring hooks. I needed a 4th spring so I hooked it to the loop of another spring, but it seems caused some instable tuning when using the bar. I was also nearly maxed out on the adjustment. > With these I was able to replace 4 springs with just 3 and still added 3/8" of spring claw adjustment. > The new springs are also better at returning to pitch (partly because of arrangement). > These Floyd Rose brand are better than standard well-made springs in reducing the annoying ring but leave some low end vibrations around the A and D string frequencies. In comparison: cheap zinc-plated springs typically sound very tinny, even the well-made German nickel-plated springs (that I use) don't sound as tinny but still ring noticably. These are definitely better. I was expecting a thicker rubbery coating which might work even better, this is almost like thick paint. "FU upgrades" have something similar with foam in the middle I have not tried, but guessing no better. I wound up putting ~ 1" of rubber guitar cable sleeve cut in half longways, slid inside the spring to kill the low end ring. Other guitars I might not even need it. Also remember to remove the coating at both ends of 1 spring, to ground the bridge/strings. 4/5 stars as they are the best soulution yet but not perfect, add another 1/2 star for this model which is heavy tension which solved my other problem.
