Just WOW!
BIG sound. While the sound of an instrument is subjective I don't see how anyone can find fault with the sound of this guitar. Like any tool it's better at some things than other's though I could see tis fitting almost any style of play. If you like hammering on the thing though it will take what you throw at it. Just a beautiful instrument. The soundhole will take a little getting… read more used to and I can see getting a plug for it but it enhances what you hear. There may be times when you do not want that though (they make a plug you can buy). Some reviews state that the mids are muddy but I do not experience this with mine. Very comfortable to play as it is not super thick. Fit, finish and setup are all flawless for me. I do not have big hands and the neck fits me great. Super happy with this purchase.
Gibson G-200 EC - Maybe the last acoustic I ever buy.
The sound from this guitar is exactly what I hoped for and expected. Get the picks out and go to town on this CANNON! ...or play finger style sweet melodies- either way the guitar I bought handles each with enthusiasm. The gig-bag was a surprise for an instrument in this price range- but it turns out to be one of the beefiest gig bags I've ever put my hands on. This minimalistic… read more appointments belie the true nature of this guitar- kinda like if you took the 5.0 badges off of a late 80s Mustang LX- this thing is a sleeper. The "G collection" bar inlays are a nice touch- subtle, but distinct on the spacious 25.5" ebony fingerboard. I'll forgive this neck for not being 1.75" wide (Gibson says 1.73, while others list 1.725...)- it plays so well. The "advanced response" is easy to play on- The slightly narrower body depth makes for more comfortable playing without seeming to give up anything sonically. The solid walnut back and sides compliment the solid sitka spruce top in a way that has garnered great responses from people I play for, and other guitarists. The Grover tuners are "okay" but I personally dislike kidney bean tuner buttons - but that's an easy fix- as is finding a replacement for the weird walnut laminate truss rod cover. The wood on my TRC was not a very good match OR contrast to the headstock, so I replaced it as well. I absolutely love the service I get at Sweetwater, Clint is always extremely good about follow-ups and service after the sale. My downfall with the listings on the Sweetwater website is that they have pictures of the EXACT model you are buying. Being able to pick one top over another- or weight over another... or whatever thing is your trigger; makes a HUGE difference, and has lead to me buying yet another guitar... last one this time.... really...
Great Guitar
I'm very happy with this guitar! It plays and sounds great right out of the box, with the action being low and the neck extremely smooth and easy to play. Does it sound as great as the standard J-200 with Maple back and sides? I have no idea, as I don't have one to compare it with. But the tone and volume of this G-200 is VERY nice! I compared it with my friends 1967 Martin D-28… read more and his Taylor 814ce and it holds it own with both of those guitars. I'm not even sure which of these guitars sound "better," as they all sound great - just different. P.S. I do like the player port. It adds just enough extra volume while I'm playing.
