Not slick
This is by far the easiest pick I"ve ever used to keep secure between my thumb and index finger. The longer I play with it, the material warms up between my fingers, and my grip improves. They aren"t cheap, but you can definitely spend more on other premium brands. These are great picks. They last forever. I like the 1mm for electric, and the 1.5 for acoustic. I have 2 more in… read more my cart now for backups. I have Gravity"s acrylic picks, and I much prefer this thermoplastic variety for both feel and sound. Worth the extra cash imo.
It's a Pick
Update to previous review, Gold Standard. You get one of these gratis, and what happens...you lose it? What a dope... So I paid for the next one. Now it doesn't leave my practice room without being put back in its little plastic baggie. I like the feel and tone of this pick, but as I've discovered lately, I am gravitating (Gravity?) towards a smaller, teardrop shape now. Every… read more now and then I dig this out and play for a few hours. Have not had it slip through my fingers to the floor, but I do have to reposition every so often to get it back into place.
Gold Standard?
Always in search of tone, playability, and durability, I've always thought of picks as being one of those accessories that you don't really give much consideration to, other than perhaps a thickness preference. Mine happens to be right around that 1.0 mm slice of heaven. Materials - a good gripping surface or texture and durability are the two features I valued most.I talked to… read more my rep, Chris Ishak, who suggested I try one of these picks. I was a little shocked by the price - of ONE pick - and was immediately skeptical of a pick with a price tag equivalent to about six 12-packs of Tortex picks. Could one pick replace 72 picks? Would I be able to hang on to a... pick for as long as 72 picks would last (I'm thinking of how often I leave a pick in my pants pocket and forget to take them out before doing laundry, or losing them when taking other items out of pockets, etc.). I sure hope so, otherwise I'm out a... pick with no backups. With the Tortex picks, I'd still have 71 more picks to use before I'm all out and have to buy more...Anyways - to the pick! Was it destiny...? No, but I was destined to get one of these bad boys.Feel - thickness of the pick is just right. Material feels pretty good, too. Solid, no flex (as exepected), good size and shape for me. Compared to a Dunlop or a Tortex, the Gravity feels about the same with respect to surface grip / texture. Did not notice any slickness or slippage from my fingers after playing for about 45 minutes or so (another player mentioned this issue, although I cannot confirm how sweaty my hands vs. their hands were to see if that explained their issue).Tone - the Gravity sounds good. No "thwack-thwack" of typical acrylic picks. Compared to other "tone-designed" picks like the Tusqs, the Gravity sits somewhere between the Tusq Warm & Tusq Deep picks. Even did the pick drop tone test with all three, just to compare.Durability - after playing, I inspected the pick's edges for wear or scratches. Couldn't find any. Quite impressed. Will keep checking - is "Thermoplastic" that much more expensive, or is it the laser edging/engraving? Not sure...but as long as I can keep my hands on the Gravity (and not be a bonehead and accidentally drop it/lose it), I'll enjoy playing/picking!
Good. Worth...?
I felt compelled to write the review as the only other one on here said these were slick & difficult to hold on to, which is ridiculous. The other side of the pick is engraved w/ Gravity's logo (perhaps it should have come w/ a diagram "place thumb here"). I play bass & rhythm and am somewhat ham-fisted. In the hands of an actual musician, these may sound stupendous. Don't know.… read more Sounds alright to me. Definitely warmer than the regular acrylic Gravity picks. They're somewhat flexible. Honestly, they sort of remind me of the Dunlop 500s (except easier to hold on to).
Slick shoes
I tried this pick because though out the years I have found the occasional pick that really offers some amazing tones simply because it is slightly different from the pack, wether it be due to a new material or something exotic like stone or wood. This pick is not one of those! The shape is great, the edges really do seem to smoothly roll off the strings, however the tone was nothing… read more unique and the material is way to slick, I mean like once your hands build up a bit of sweat it is like Data from the Goonies and his slick shoes.
