I Wanna Marry This Guitar
Never owned a 12 string before as I thought they were too much of a pain to play. But I needed some rich jangle for a few tracks, so I actually contacted the Sweetwater sales engineer for the first time and man, did he know his stuff! By asking what guitars I liked, etc., he figured out that this Gretsch G5422G-12 (Come on, Gretsch, can't you come up with a better name?!?) would… read more be the neck I'd like most. I was quite impressed with how helpful he was, and how he never tried to sell me anything. (I guess Sweetwater doesn't hire used car salesmen!)It arrived in a few days. Completely in tune, perfect intonation. I played it and it's a marriage made in heaven. So effortless to play! It feels like a 6 string. And man, does it sound good -- so rich, jangley when you want that, and very crisp. Never had a Gretsch before, either, and I am very impressed with the quality. Plays better then the $ Gibsons I've tried.BTW, I am a player, not a collector. I have 3 guitars for different sounds -- a Yamaha Tele, a Vox Bobcat for P90 bite, and now this one for rhythm. I do not collect guitars to put on the wall and look at! But I gotta say that this one sure is purty! The pictures do not do it justice. It's rather shinier and more dazzling than the pictures show. The brownish color is quite vibrant in real life.Anyway, I have to go file for a marriage license!
