Pure tone, pleasure to play
Fantastic tone, hard to get a bad sound out of this guitar. Vintage Chet tones, jazz, rock, surf. Playability is perfect, especially for fingerstyle. Not sure how this one could be improved. Stunning looks.
Buy with confidence.
Beautifully crafted and intonated guitar. Fast wide ebony neck makes this a finger pickers delight. Plug into a vintage Tweed or an old Gibson 150 and you're in tone heaven. Thanks to Jacob for working with me on this.
The Country Gentleman
This guitar is the most beautiful instrument I think I've ever played. Everything from tuners to Filtertron pickups to the Bigsby are first rate! It plays like a dream!! I've been wanting the Country Gentleman model for many years and finally was able to afford one! Thanks to Andy for shipping it out to me so quickly. It was originally scheduled to arrive on Monday but got here… read more on the previous Friday so I had the whole weekend to play it!!!
Guitar of my dreams..!
Love this guitar. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it. I agree 100% with Bill Jackson review (the other reviewer,a neighbor of mine in Queens NY whom I'd like to meet and compare notes) This is a gem carefully crafted which will stay with me till the end of time.
Simply the best!
i finally found the guitar of my dreams. This guitar is superb! I have two other gretsch guitars that I love, but this tops them both, as a matter of fact they beat all the guitars I have by a long shot. I am very picky on the guitars I buy, I have 14 guitars and I consider them all good but they cannot compare to this. Chet Atkins knew what he was doing. Of special note should… read more be the tuning keys. These are the best! They fit your fingers and are so easy to use. I am considering using them on my other guitars. Please read up on the history of this guitar on the Gretsch Pages, very interesting and will explain the history of this great instrument. The nut is wider and ideal for finger picking but does not hinder fast flatpicking. You may be a bit puzzled by the wiring at first, but when you get the guitar you will see the logic in it. The pickup combination is a dream. When you adjust the tone control you will understand why Chet wanted the rotary pot instead of the 'mud switch'. You can really dial in some subtle tones on it. You will notice also the sound of the guitar sounds exactly like the sound on Chet's records. I tried for years to get that sound on my other gretsch guitars and could not duplicate what I heard on the record. I found out that Chet used this guitar for over thirty years on all his records. This guitar was not in production and was made especially for Chet based on his suggestions. He had the only one ever made. It is in the Opry museum and this is a direct copy of that guitar. You are playing history when you play this. For you jazz players, I played Moonlight In Vermont exactly the way Johnny Smith played in and this guitar passed the test in flying colors. I have been playing for 62 years and this is the best guitar I have ever played.
