Locking mechanism failed

Jade Blackthorne

I have the earlier version of this and the way the legs are locked down is to twist a big key on the bottom. Very secure. However the new one I bought has a different mechanism where you push a button and you know it's locked because there's an indicator that changes color. I had used this new version for about a week with it only holding my Gibson SG and it was fine. A friend came read more over for lunch when I showed her my Gibson Les Paul 60s standard. I had put my SG in my guitar rack and after playing my Les Paul put it in the new stand. I then went to fix my plate and as I was in the kitchen I heard a loud bang. Took only a second to look and I saw my Les Paul on the ground face down. My friend was on the other side of the room saying it just collapsed and fell. She couldn't of caused it because she still had her plate in her hands and was too far to have moved to and from her spot in the time I looked from the kitchen. My Les Paul no longer had a head stock. I quickly realized the legs where splayed out under the stand and the stand hadn't tipped over but crashed to the ground. Only way that could happen was the leg locked failed. I took pictures before touching anything so I'd have proof. I'm very happy Sweetwater helped me out with discounting my repair costs but my Les Paul will never be the same.

Always A Great Experience

I have always had great experiences in dealing with Sweetwater. Paul Eckert is the best!

Nice stand, sturdy

I have 5 of these and, there has not been a problem with any of them. Most are 3 to 5 yrs old. It is great not to get anything tangled such as strap, cord or even a wireless transmitter. A little pricey but, way better than a cheaper stand.

High quality and excellent value

I've been quite familiar with Ultimate Support products, having been very happy for many years with various models utilized to support my synthesizer collection. But I got this GS-100+ stand to support my new Roland Aerophone Pro AE-30 electronic wind instrument (which I also recently purchased at Sweetwater). With a customized addition of an On Stage cup holder to support the bottom read more of the instrument, this is an ideal solution, since there are no dedicated stands yet available for the new Aerophone Pro. Even if there were, they would have a tough time measuring up to this solution, which is an extremely secure and perfect fit, and with easy access to the instrument. Of course I'm certain that it would be just as terrific a stand for guitars and basses (without a need for customization). As such, I highly recommend it.

Great stand, good improvements

This stand has always been my favorite for many years. Although there are other stand designs, this has been the most stable and portable. I have owned several types including expensive German-made. I own 4 of the previous Ultimate stand designs and this (the latest) edition. I use these for fiddle, acoustic and electric guitars, and bass. The latest edition has an improved lock-unlock read more mechanism that appears to work well (although I have not tested this one for 10 years as I have my older versions).
