D'addario temperature, hygrometer review
needed one so bought this one. then I read the reviews and wondered if mine was defective. even bought a different brand because of it. but the two's numbers matched and it worked just fine afterall. it's an advanced unit and I think that the bad reviews were just the user's error or lack of understanding regarding humidity and a layman's hygrometer. understandable though as… read more I just took my moccasins off. but I did walk that same mile right with them. if you're thinking about buying it buy it. it's a good device and does everything that it says it will.
Humidity indicator
This is not a very accurate instrument. I live in west Texas where it is usually relatively dry. It stays on my music stand and varies between 39% to 51% and I set it out on the porch where the relative humidity is 87 this morning and the hydrometer only measured 57%. I have not worried too much about my guitars but my Taylor 810 has developed a soundboard crack from the endpin… read more bout half way to the strings. The temperature indicator is not too accurate either.I will not use this as an accurate indicator any more. I got what I paid for and will get a more expensive instrument.
Broke in a few months
Cheap product stopped working after a a few months giving false readings and the screen flickers uncontrollably.
Not that good
Had this for about 8 months and gives out false readings with humidty. I would not trust this, maybe for a enclosed guitar case but most certainly not a room....Changed the battery too.
Definitely required for acoustics in dry areas
I'd advise anyone living in a dry area (deserts and/or high altitudes, mainly) to have a hygrometer/thermometer in their arsenal (in the guitar's case, actually). When the humidity gets low, you risk damage to the exposed wood of the guitar, and for acoustics that's pretty much the whole instrument. The neck, top, back & sides can all dry out and begin to crack or separate, and… read more that means either expensive repairs or complete loss of the instrument. I'm happy with my purchase from Sweetwater. Thanks, Phil Schwan (my sales engineer).
