I'm not a expert but I have been playing ukuleles for a few years. This tenor xl sounds almost like a guitar, that's if you are ukulele player. It sounds very deep and we'll just nice. Easy to finger, and the low G is so different from a regular ukulele.

I like the sound of a guitar....but find it hard to play. This tenor ukelele with a low G string and special construction gives me a nice rich sound. I absolutely love it. Sometimes I just slowly turn it over and over in my hands and admire the perfection and beauty of the instrument itself. I play it every day, on and off, giving my fingers a rest in between. Instead of learning… read more a bunch of easy songs (call me crazy) I picked "We'll Meet Again" because of the nine chord changes which I find beautiful.....and soothing. When I placed my call to purchase, Tony was so helpful in a kind, patient and well-informed way, not at all pushy. I am sure anyone you contact at Sweetwater will serve you well. A big "Thank You" to everyone who had a hand in making my wonderful ukelele. Having this little music maker has improved my life. I ordered a songbook online so I could get started right away. With its low G it does have a guitar vibe instead of the traditional ukelele with high g like my Martin concert. I love them equally for different reasons. The Kayla resonates so well. I have played a lot of nice Ukulele, but this one really is something special. The tone is sweet ,and it has very good resonance thanks to the mahogany and the bigger size. It's a quality instrument.

Really like the sound of my Kala tenor XL uke. The finish has a couple of areas where something was stuck to it before it was the finish was completed which is disappointing. If the finish was 100% I would have given it all 5 stars.
