Just WOW!
Well, it took me long enough but here is my take! I own two other Epiphone Les Pauls-Korean era. This guitar smokes both of them (90s standard and 90s Custom). The Chinese 50s Standard Goldtop is a guitar I have impatiently waited for all of 25 years in a lefty. The construction quality is nearly Gibson USA quality and the components are impeccable. The fit and feel of this guitar… read more is so upscale it's scary to think it comes in at the 600 dollar mark. After owning a 70s era Gibson Paul Standard, the playability and dependability factors make me wonder why I ever sprung two grand back then for a guitar that was a constant set up problem and next to impossible to keep in tonal accuracy. My Epi 50s goldtop was flawless and perfectly set up right out the box. I haven't touched a tool with this guitar. Many thanks to Tom Koch for his amazing help in connecting me to this "pleasure to play" instrument!
Gibson finally gets Epiphone right.
If you haven't played one of the new Epis you need to. I haven't owned an Epi in 20 + years could not stand the ugly headstock, poor build and plastic slipcover finish. They finally took a cue from Japan and stopped alienating the mid priced audience. So let's see....non weight relieved body, check. Long neck tenon, check. Fat neck, check. Goldtop, yes please. $... shipped, whoa… read more , what ?. This is a great guitar at this price point. I got a lighter one at 8 lb 10 oz. because that's what I like. Mine needed very little tweaking out of the box. My hope is that they will give us more models. Know how many white lefty customs they could sell ? As many as they can make. These guitars are winning a whole new audience of people like me who could not care less about Epiphone guitars. Your probably not going to find one to try out, so just go buy the damm thing.
Thing of beauty
I was actually going into Sweetwater to look for a new amp. However, while I was in the parking lot I was browsing their app and found this guitar. I've always wanted a gold top, but they are nearly impossible to find in left handed when it comes to Ephiphones. I had my left handed Epiphone Les Paul custom with me that I've owned since around 2003. The sales department was able… read more to get this gold top pulled from the warehouse so I could play it. As soon as I was holding it I knew. I didn't even have to plug it into an amp, but I did of course. I plugged it into an Orange 35rt and it sounded SO GOOD. Epiphone has come along way in their quality and sound, they play like a dream too. I went to Sweetwater for an amp and walked out with this instead and I couldn't be happier. Everyone at Sweetwater is always a great help and they always go out of their way to make sure you have a wonderful experience.
