L-00 Style Acoustic on a budget...fun guitar for price
I bought this Luna on a whim as I was looking for a left handed Gibson L-OO syle acoustic to play blues, slide and folk style music on. I really couldn't justify spending big bucks on the Gibson. I'm too rough and unfortunately sometimes careless with guitars and would be too scared to damage a Gibson or Taylor or Martin. Anyhow, I had to play with the truss rod and string gauge… read more on the this Luna and went with some 10's and a looser truss rod adjustment. The action is that perfect height that works good for fretting and not being to high and for slide not being too low. The body size and style give it a unique tone with more of a mid's emphasis. It's a little boomy and slighty dark on the bottom end of the spectrum. The high E and B strings...there's a little lack of projection/volume on single note playing but it's still a nice tone over all. The neck is very comfortable and I like the nut height and saddle height as mentioned. The guitar does have a slightly stiff feel to it when it arrived, less Gibson and more stiff like a Martin if that makes sense. It sounds very solid strummed or finger picked. For the price it's a great guitar that adds something different to the arsenal. As I write this review I realize that a custom string gauge maybe a gauge with heavier than what I got on top like 11's (11-14-18) and then go lighter on the low strings if they even make them light like a 44 for the low E along with an ever looser truss rod adjustment would make this guitar play better. Is it a L-00? Not even close. Does it have tones usable for said genres above that get you closer than a dreadnaught might? I think it does. For the price, it arrived quite playable and it's a lot of fun. I have lots of lower end guitars that I really quite enjoy: a Recording King parlor guitar in open E that is great for slide, a Seagull S6 dreadnaught that I use for all kinds of playing, a Regal Dobro, a Seagull 12 strings (great guitars for price range) an old Aria classical and a slew of overseas electrics in various styles. The Luna brand is solid and I'd say comparable to Ibanez or Yamaha. I just like having a lot of tools too work with and this guitar has got me to go into different creative directions so for that it's worth it. For the price of two psychotherapy sessions you could play for a few months and pay it forward and give it to some one in need...now there's a thought!
