Not exactly a unicorn
I was dying to get my hands on an 8-string ukulele but not spend a lot. Acoustic/electric was a plus. I ordered this cutie and the first thing I did was a string change. I rip the strings off every instrument I get and put on the strings I like - so I can really judge/hear the sound of the instrument at it's "new" best. Wooden instruments' sound improves with long term playing,… read more so what you have at the beginning, is usually the worst it's going to sound if you take care of it. After the hassle fo stretching the strings, this 8-string Luna High Tide holds tune, unless it's crazy humid outside -then, nothing holds tune. I use a good tuner with it because if strings are off the tiniest bit, when you have 4 pairs of strings, harmony degrades badly. I like this ukulele. Plugged in, is has perfectly acceptable tone. At this price point you are not buying a hand made koa ukulele. If you are weak playing bar chords, they will be twice as hard for you, so work on them, if you get this uke. I love it. The neck is narrower than I imagined (though accurate in the specs), which is a good thing. This is one of my favorite uses, though not the most costly. I like the bigger sound. Like a 12 string guitar, this is strictly a harmony instrument. you don't want to use this for much melodic work because of the double stringing. This is a great uke to add to your collection - I would not use it as a 1st ukulele. Could have purchase this instrument from several places - I always choose Sweetwater, if they have what I need. The service is excellent, my sales engineer, Rick, is great and my instruments and gear always arrive unscathed.
Very nice all around uke
After getting a replacement of this uke and it having a proper setup, this is an awesome uke. The one I had first received was very difficult to play. The action was very high. I'd never played an 8-string before, so I just assumed that's how they were supposed be, which is what I believe caused the bridge to break not even a week after getting it. I noticed the second I started… read more playing the replacement, which was delivered within 2 days after filling for a replacement, which, thank you sweetwater for being so prompt. It played so smooth. It was like night and day. I really love this uke. It's a well built and solid uke for the price.
Faulty bridge on a nice uke
I recieved this very nice 8 string uke as an early birthday present only 5 days ago and the bridge completely come off the body! I didn't over tune it, didn't drop or damage it. I had it hanging on my wall in the factory bag. It was fine yesterday. Just went in today to play it, took it out of its bag it and noticed the damage. I only played it not even an hour a day! I have several… read more other ukes from various companies and have and never seen anything like this at all. Very disappointed in this product and not a good first impression from Luna Ukuleles.
