What's That I Hear?

There is definitely a sonic difference in the picks. I bought these and the Deep version to compare and did the pick drop test - pretty interesting to hear the different tones from picks of the same shape, size, and thickness. Playability - there is also a difference (slight) in tone that my ears detect between the two versions; the Warm picks seem to have a slightly brighter tone read more than the Deep picks. I don't hear any of the typical pick "thwack thwack" sounds I'm used to hearing from Dunlops or Fender picks. Durability - one of the claims that Tusq makes is that their picks, like their other guitar products, can stand up to the wear & tear of playing much better than acrylic or other synthetic materials. We'll see; after a few hours of playing, the edges do not seem to show any abrasion or wear marks. DISCLAIMER - I rated these 3.5 stars because...well, because I'm a dope and didn't realize that "Teardrop" shapes are smaller than "Standard" size picks, and therefore, I had to adjust to the much smaller size than what I'm used to. They feel like I'm using a fingernail; pinched between my thumb and forefinger, the very tip of the pick is barely visible, yet somehow I'm able to strike strings cleanly (for the most part).

Pros: - notes bloom and ring consistently.- clarity has increased for me (I've mentioned this in a review on the 0.88mm warm tusq picks, the material seems to 'get out of the way' of the strings since it's more resonant than traditional materials).- the raised logo/lettering provide a very adequate amount of surface grip without being uncomfortable.- 1mm seems to be a goldilocks read more size for me (the right blend of flex/rigidity).Cons:- they wear fairly quickly (the thicker the better for this particular aspect) and leave a bit of dust on my guitar (I suppose if the material was any more durable it may lose some of the positive qualities I mentioned above)Overall fantastic picks! Most of the things I'm hearing will likely not be noticed much during live performances, but bedroom/studio players will likely be happy with the improvement in sound over traditional materials. They 'warm' material seems to be good if you already enjoy the sound of your guitar and simply want a nicer pick. I've tried the 'dark' material and it is certainly great if you need a slightly (maybe 5%) thicker sound (plus that material was the closest in sound/feel to the dunlop primetone picks I was previously using, though it was still superior to my ears). I imagine the 'bright' material will produce exactly what it advertises.
