Limited Purpose Machine
I am an average musician. I play for myself at home as a kind of hobby. The one I got is far and away the heaviest of all of my guitars. Because I don't gig, that's not really a big deal for me. I love the feel of the neck - not that glossy stuff that I don't love. I have 8 electrics, including this one. I sort of pick one to play based on the mood I'm in. I play out of combo amps (either a Positive Grid Spark or a Fender Mustang GTX), and I thought maybe the problem was that those amps were not good to drive the kind of gain that the Monarkh excels at. I tuned it to D standard in order to play Sad But True and things changed. I would say this machine is great for drop D, D standard or lower types of tuning when playing out of high gain amps. At those tunings, the sound is defined and mean. Perfect for that style of playing. If you are looking for a more versatile guitar, this isn't it. This one does down tuned metal great and anything else average or lower.
