Precise, articulate and full sounding
I'm a Jeff Loomis fan. He got me into sharpy picks. There's definitely a learning curve because at first they feel really clunky due to the sharp tip. I got stuck between the strings often. But once I got the bang of it there was no going back. Every time I try other picks I tend to ober pick because I'm not feeling the drag of the sharp tip. These picks allow me to have a very… read more light touch yet due to the sharp tip I get a loud and full sounding note. And the best of it is that I get that clicking sound when alternate/tremolo picking. I've tried other sharpy picks and while they do sound good in similar ways they always move in my hand. This one doesn't. Due to the derlin material they stay put. They also feel nice. It doesn't feel like a 1.5mm pick. It feels thinner. Some picks feel thicker at the same gauge. This one feels just right. The bevels also give me that chello like scratching sound on the wound strings. For metal that's huge because it brings out your amps distortion. It just chugs. On the unwound strings I get a little bit of drag as well which I use as a reference point so I know when I hit the strings. With the Dunlop sharp I slipped right over the string which messed up my hand synchronization. Due to the drag on the unwound strings I get a full sound. A little darker than Ultex but still very articulate. I can hear every note picked no matter how much distortion I dial in. I get that this is all subjective but if you give them a try remember you'll go through an adjustment period. But if you give yourself the chance you might want to stick with sharp tip picks because of the fact that they allow you to shred effortlessly while maintaining a full and articulate sound for every note played.
Ehh...Not A Fan
Seen so many people rave about these and they seemed like a good idea similar to the Dunlop Flow series but they're actually too sharp. Could be partly my fault because of my picking technique but these practically get "stuck" because they're so sharp, even with the bevel. Unless I'm just doing acoustic stuff such as chord progressions or jazzy stuff, I can't say I care for these.… read more Sound and response of these is okay but nothing special.
