Move over Jazz III
I tried one of these on a whim and I was blown away in the improvement in sound that I got. It gave me a louder a far brighter sound and added a lot of bite to my guitar tone. It glides over the strings like glass and these things are truly a work of art due to their handcrafted nature. I was really concerned that because they are so slick looking that my grip would be an issue… read more and I haven't noticed any difference compared to the Tortex Jazz III that I've been playing with for years. Now the price was one thing that kept me from pulling the trigger on these as one pick costs about the same as a Player's pack of Jazz III's,but I think that it is worth it. That could be a sticking point for a professional musician or someone who loses picks often, but I have been using the same 12 pack of Jazz IIIs for about two years so I'm not concerned with that. I also was concerned that because they are clear like Ultex that I would lose sight of them if one did get dropped on the floor, but the neon green actually takes on a florescent effect on the edge of the pick making it easy to find. So give one a try you might find your new pick of choice,I know I did.
Mixed feelings
I have been using Jazz 3 picks for the last 10 years. I've been using the standard Dunlop red nylon Jazz 3 picks. But I'm always trying out new ideas and new materials to see if they are maybe an improvement on the original design. I picked up this Gravity Sunrise Mini about 2 weeks ago because it was the closest in their lineup to a jazz 3. It performed beautifully! It definitely… read more puts out slightly more high-end, and little bit more volume than a normal red Jazz 3. It also wears down a little slower than a normal Jazz 3. That being said, I would totally convert over to using these if the price was different. A six pack of standard red Jazz 3 picks is the same price as this one pick! If it was even half the cost, and you got three of these gravity Sunrise Minis for this price then maybe I could consider switching over. Maybe in the future when their production becomes more streamlined and they can produce in a lower-cost that might be the case. In the meantime as much as I love this pick, I just can't justify spending the same amount on one as I can spend on an original pack of Dunlop red Jazz 3s for a pack of 6.
