Takamine P3DC Dreadnought - Natural Satin Review

Inspiring and worthwhile investment

I needed a new workhorse for acoustic gigs and recording. I wanted a Pro quality instrument in the price range of these guitars. The build quality is top notch, the preamp sounds great....best of all...the guitar sounds crisp, full, and well balanced into a condenser mic when recording it's room sound. Recording a live stream gig with a capo eased my mind as the intonation is right on no matter where I used it. Definitely beyond pleased with the entire experience as usual.

Better than most

I had a Takamine for 15 years and it was my work horse. I eventually gave it to my son, after buying a Martin and a Taylor. I loved that guitar. Greatest value for a great guitar.

Pro Acoustic

I gig regularly with this guitar in my acoustic vocal trio. It looks great, plays great, sounds great, stays in tune and has never let me down. It's also priced appropriately - I don't see how a Gibson, Taylor or Martin is worth 3X as much. Not to me anyway. The only negative that I can think of is the neck inlay markers and side dots are subtle and not easy to see in low light… read more situations. My solution was stick-on marker dots that I applied over the side markers. Problem solved. I've been playing Takamine for over 30 years because I think that they make the best guitars - and if they are good enough for Garth Brooks, the Eagles and countless other top artists, they are surely good enough for me!

A Joy To Play

After a lot of research and shopping around, I landed on Takamine for great quality guitars at reasonable prices. The P3DC is a dream come true. It's the first mid-level acoustic I've owned, and it plays as well and sounds as good as much more expensive guitars that I've played. I had some requirements when picking a specific model, some aesthetic and some practical. I was looking… read more for a cutaway dreadnought, and natural finish instead of the super gloss that you usually find on acoustics. This is absolutely gorgeous. The tone is stunning, the construction is exceptional, and the the feel makes it a real joy to play. It doesn't have a pick guard, so I'm starting to see wear on it already, but since I intend to play this guitar into the dust 'm not too worried about it. When I received the guitar, there was a severe ground fault in the jack that made it unplayable live. Luckily, Sweetwater reimbursed me for repairs, and while I was at my local luthier I got a pro setup done as well. After that setup, I was completely blown away by the quality of this guitar. My luthier was impressed too, and said that he might seek out a Takamine partnership. Despite his connections with high-end brands like Martin and Taylor, he said that for what I paid for this guitar I got an exceptional instrument.
