Most versatile guitar ever.
Awesome guitar. I purchased the 12-String and the tone, pre-sets and playability are phenomenal. Very light weight and excellent craftsmanship. They may use the best wood on the 12-stings. Beautiful koa with complex grain pattern.
My Dream Guitar
I primarily play acoustic and occasionally electric for worship. Switching guitars isn't a great option and I wanted more opportunities to play electric. I've drooled over the T5 and T5z for years, but had lingering doubts given the price and some critical reviews over the years especially on its acoustic sound. I tried the recent Fender Acoustasonics, but their electric capability… read more seemed limited in comparison. Over the last year, I've been using a Kemper Stage and felt relatively confident I could dial in the T5z acoustic sound (even without trying it in person) and I had enough confidence in Taylor's workmanship to buy the guitar without playing it, something in the past I'd never consider. I also wanted a real looker with curl! Waiting in the queue, Sweetwater sent pics of the available Koa Custom and it was one of the best guitar tops I'd ever seen. Sold! I had Sweetwater plek it with my favorite, uncoated strings. It was probably overkill, but plekking in Alaska isn't a thing and I wanted it just right. It's been a few months and I love this guitar. The T5z paired with a Kemper Stage sounds spectacular and is a vast improvement over my Taylor acoustic going DI. If you're an acoustic player looking at more opportunities to play electric guitar while maintaining or improving your acoustic sound, the T5z+Kemper makes it easy, but a T5z plus your favorite acoustic preamp (Fishman Aura, etc) switched with your electric rig would work just fine.
My Stranded on an Island Guitar!
OK, I had my T5z Custom Koa for a month now. I've played it pretty much every day. I have to tell you that this guitar is EVERYTHING. The more types of electric and acoustic guitars you've played, the more genres of music that you like to play, the more that you will appreciate what this guitar offers you. With a flick of the selector switch and a turn of the tone shaping knobs… read more I go from playing jazz pieces to Santana to flamenco to blues to Hendricks on ONE guitar, and the tones that come out of it are absolutely correct for whatever genre I'm playing. Now I don't play metal but I imagine that my T5z could do that too. Sometimes when I make a radical switch from say a fingerstyle acoustic piece to a latin rock piece I find it hard to believe that such incredibly wonderful correct tones are coming out of the SAME guitar. And it is superbly comfortable and effortless to play. If there was a Noble Prize for innovation in music, the folks who designed the T5z would surely win it. If I was stranded on an island- with electricity naturally :^)- this would be the guitar that I'd want with me. Paired with a versatile amp and/or pedals, you can play ANYTHING on the T5z and be happy.
Love the T5z!
It's a pleasure to play such a well-crafted and versatile instrument. Adam and Sweetwater staff were great in helping me make the decision to add this tool to my player's toolbox. There's a lot to learn for a longtime strictly acoustic player like me, but the learning curve is less steep because of the range of pickups - tone shaping - and amp possibilities. I did not find the smaller… read more body size daunting at all, since I play Taylors with similar and larger body shapes. Overall, I'm enjoying the heck out of this instrument and looking forward to growing my skills within the very big arena of T5z possibilities. nobodycircuit_john on Instagram
