Traveler Ultra-Light Review

I love this thing!

I got this yesterday and I have to say it's absolutely fun and practical. Great for trips etc, quiet enough to practice in the bedroom and not wake anyone. It is astonishingly light. The dark stain is beautiful, with just the right warm feel to the neck. Some of the parts are a little on the cheap side and I think it may be just a little overpriced. If they upgraded some of the… read more hardware it would help justify the cost. As is, it's a great, fun instrument. I'm giving it four stars just because I think it a little overpriced.

Not exactly acoustical

I bought this primarily to keep me from getting bored while my wife drinks, smokes, cusses and gambles in Vegas. To my surprise, it plays and sounds very good. Although,I would compare it more to a hollow body electric than an acoustic. Very happy with this one...

Couldn't Be Happier

I bought this guitar back in 2013 so I could practice at work on my breaks. I work in a machine shop and wanted something that wouldn't attract attention but had a full size neck. This seemed the best likely choice for me and I was not disappointed !! This guitar is almost silent acoustically but with an earphone amp and earphone sounds GREAT !! Also plugging into a full size amp… read more produces a nice rich tone that is surprisingly good. It's small size does take a little getting used to but it's easy to store in a locker (at work) or an airplane overhead compartment. Changing the strings is a little more of a challenge than what most of us are used to but can be done with a bit of patience. It's not much to look at aesthetically, but that is not what we are going for here anyway,however, the fit and finish work on mine was really well done. Fret ends were nicely dressed. The frets were not gritty at all and the finger board was nice and smooth. No complaints at all, really. My thanks to Sweetwater for their GREAT customer service and providing just what I need just when I need it !!

Incredible

I bought this and took it to Hawaii. I practiced for five hours all the way in the air. Incredible. It is highly playable. I am exclusively finger style with a thumb pick and it is perfect for practicing with a tiny Vox plug in amp a dear buds. It is called acoustic because it has a piezo compared to an electric pickup. Which makes sense. And It does produce an adequate acoustic… read more sound in the earbuds. It is not made for ambient sound. And that's a good thing especially in a packed airplane. I tuned it slack down C to C and it is fine with slack style. Excellent for blues and country chicken Picken. Harmonics are great. Overall I am very happy with it. All you complainers out there STPhU go take a happy pill and chill your complaining pie hole. Except for something that arrived broken and in that case just exchange it., I can't believe that someone would give this guitar a poor review.

Traveler Guitar Light

This guitar works perfect for me to sit in the living room with the wife, and her not hearing me pick. It's great to do extra work while watching tv. I also use it on vacation trips where I can just put my headphones on with the amp accessor I bought so only I can hear it...love this little travel guitar...

The best compact travel guitar I have tried, hands down

I must state right up front that I'm a guitar fanatic, a band leader, and a gigging musician with the obligatory day job to pay the bills. This Traveler Ultra Light is the best of all the portable traveling guitars I have ever tried or owned. (And by that, I mean that I have borrowed from a friend the Martin Backpacker, meh, and I have owned the Washburn Rover, a Glen Burton machine… read more gun guitar, a Rogue lap steel, and the Hofner Shorty travel guitar.) All of them had their strong points and their weak ones too. Thin sounding, one-trick-ponies, gimmick guitars, whatever. None of them lasted long with me. This one is different. It hangs well from the guitar strap on my upper torso, and the baseball bat neck feels smooth and substantial. The acoustic sounds are great for playing in a hotel while on travel, and, plugged in, I get a versatile set of tones at all volumes and levels of mild distortion and effects. It seems better suited to analog amps when played out loud, and is just fine with digital guitar effects processors when you are wearing your headphones. Some digital effects are not friendly to it when played loudly, so bring the amp volumes up slowly. The fret ends are dressed nicely, and it's ergonomically comfortable when playing. And the light weight makes it a joy to play for extended periods of time. I haven't tried the (included) leg brace structure thingie, but then again, I rarely play seated. I really like this guitar. I give it two thumbs up.

Perfect for the couch or office

It's small enough to pass enough to pass around on the couch. Quiet enough to practice on while the family watches tv. About as loud as an unplugged electric. But plug it into an amp and it comes alive. Sounds sweet. Really like the smooth full sized neck. Reminds me of Lez Paul's log.

Perfect for Practice on the road

Pros: Perfect for Practice on the road, fits in overhead plane carry-on luggage bin, perfect for unplugged practice during lunch hour at work, fits under the desk. Has doubled my practice time, in my busy, hectic schedule. Works with Xvive Audio U2 Digital Wireless Guitar System, and headphones, for late night practice in hotel. Bonus: recently had a severe operation, now under… read more severe weight lifting restriction, which rules out lifting/playing my monster Fender Jazz 5 String. Still practicing, in bed, with a ton of time on my hand, with this light little bass! Cons: NOT for Performance, unless you have a very good EQ system. Lots of tin and scratch, and very little boom. Upside??? It will force you to practise a lot better finger placement, and string damping techniques. Note: pickups on this thing are VERY hot. You'll want to turn you preAmp gain WAY down, if you plug into a regular amp.

This is the latest of several orders from Sweetwater. I can't say enough about how great Sweetwater or Randy Poteete have been. The customer service is ex and excellent. The orders ship quickly and arrive quickly and in good order. The acoustic version of the Traveler Guitar is very compact. There are no issues taking it on an airplane. Its extremely quiet, I recommend some type… read more of headphone amplifier. Overall it's good for what it is. I think mine needs a setup to lower the action to where I l like it. For the price, I'd recommend it.
