A Better Experience!

I tried a set of Cobalts on my Gretsch Tennessee Rose last year and loved the way they felt and sounded. I just put a set on a '70 Les Paul Deluxe in G tuning and it sounds great with the Dunlop glass slide. I also put a set on a reissue Gibson Les Paul Deluxe and it is playing and sounding great. It's interesting that the strings are highlighting the differences in sound between read more the two guitars and both sound great! I think I may be hooked on the Cobalt strings... Ready for the gig...

Great for a lot of reasons

Output is clear, noticeably higher, and tone is great! I"ve played strats and acoustics all my life so I"m used to a little tighter string, which is why I play 11s on my Gibson ES 235. I"ve had my Gibson about 6 months and still had this slightly unsettled feeling bc the strings felt unstable and bent easier than what I"m used to. These strings are slightly stiffer than regular read more Ernie ball slinky"s which was just what I needed. I play blues and bend a lot so definitely not too stiff. Also, seem a little smoother than regular slinkys too, easier to slide around. Great strings will continue to use.

These strings sound great. Punchy, bright and clear. They last a long time. With deep bends (not that I do a lot beyond when I'm goofing off) there seems to be no risk of breaking a string. These sound phenomenal on my Gretsch 5122 but they especially gave new life to my formerly ignored Stratocaster.

New Fav!

I have been using EB strings for quite some time. I've always used the 1148 set on my LP and 1046 set on my Strat. Mostly, I'd go with the regular nickel wound. I've tried a few sets of RPS and Pure Nickel Wound series and I have to say they are all very good strings, but they are not that good for me to stick with them. I had the idea of trying out these new strings because the read more other guitar player, who plays an SG, in my band sounds so much brighter and more present than me and we were using the exact same rigs. I knew they claim the Cobalt series would give more output and make the sound brighter so I thought I'd give it a try. I ordered only one set because this is almost twice the price of the normal EB sets to try it out. The first impression is that the lower 3 strings provides more friction to the left hand than the regular EBs do, which is great for me. This is even better when I got on the stage because my hands sweat. I used to like the sound of a set of new strings but it would take a couple of days for the string to get comfortable to play. The Cobalt provides the great feel straight out of the box. As far as the tone goes, there's absolutely nothing wrong with it! It does seems to provide a little higher output. The tension seems to be a little greater than that of the regular EBs with the same gauge. But I do find that it's gradually losing its tension after 2-3 weeks of playing (which is quite normal). The string last quite long. I ordered 5 packs from Sweetwater after I tried the set. Will stick with these for some time! \m/ \m/

My new strings!

Strung my guitar and didn’t notice a huge difference acoustically. When I plugged in I was very happy. These strings do what they claim. They add great focus and clarity. I had some issues with low end “Mud” but not anymore. They sound great, play great and have great tuning stability. If your trying to clear up your low end give these a try. Changing strings is easier, and read more cheaper, than hunting for new pick-ups, guitars or amps.
