Best SG Neck PU... Period!
I have a pair of Gibson SG Standards, one is a 61 reissue and the other a straight up standard. Of course none of my guitars are standard. All have been modified to suit my needs and taste in various ways. Stock pickups almost never work for me...i play a wide variety of music...rock, progressive rock, alternative, progressive metal, and some neo-classical. My 61 reissue started… read more out with a Gibson 61r in the neck...very clangy sounding to me...had to go. I then tried a Dimarzio gravity storm neck pickup..too sterile sounding although the Gravity Storm bridge pickup sounds great on this guitar. I then tried the Gibson 490r pickup...and the amazing tone i was looking for appeared. The cleans on this guitar with the 490r are the sweetest you could ask for...lots of mid, presence, and just the right amount of low / treble. A joy for the complex chord clean parts that i write where a pickup like this really shines. And the lead tone is also super...articulate and very modern Gibson sounding with a nice low mid push. Same story with the other SG standard, first a 57 Classic pickup...just didn't care for the muddiness of it, then i switched to the 490r again....and again...it sounds amazing. This is the perfect pickup for an SG neck in my opinion. You can play any style with it except fast attack death metal...but who uses an SG for that anyway? Save yourself a lot of neck pickup swapping and either keep your current 490r...or just get one. You will love it!!
Sounds great
I put a 490R and 490T in my Epiphone and sounds awesome
Great product at great prices
I ordered the 490r and a 498 from sweetwater and they have great prices and very helpful and friendly customer service.
Blues, Blues, and more Blues
This came in the neck postion of my SG standard. I was amazed by it's tonal clarity. If you are looking for that perfect clean bluesy sound, look no further. It is not for heavy metal, works ok if your trying to do a "Slash" sound. BUT UT SHINES FOR CRISTAL CLEAR BLUES.
