The P-90 sound, with no hum!

I feel like the P-90s in most production guitars sound too modern, too hot and lacking that cutting midrange and sensitivity great p90s have. I bought a 2020 Epiphone SG Special that was especially suffering in the pickup department. I have the Broadcaster Quiet Coils and love them so I immediately thought of getting some of the p90s for this guitar. Do these pickups cost 2/3 the read more cost of that guitar? Yes. Do they make it sound twice as good? Far more than that, honestly. These are an upgrade over any stock p90, import or otherwise. I'd immediately put these in a Gibson or other premium guitar since they cancel that annoying hum and have that vintage-hot vibe. I was also interested in the hot version of these but the regular is plenty hot for me. The bridge volume balances with the neck perfectly too, another problem I find almost every stock p90 set suffers from. For playing doomy, Iommi riffs or open, clear Townshend chords I couldn't be happier. Plus since they're noiseless you can plug into a fuzz pedal without the total hum-pocalypse. I recommend Mojotone pickups to everyone looking to add more character and retro vibe to their rig, they know how to capture the sounds of the past with a dash of new functionality and performance. I have the strat and tele quiet coils too, Mojotone's selection is seriously impressive and available at a great price.

Oh, My God!!

I purchased these to replace the sub-par P-90 Pro pickups in my 2020 Epiphone Les Paul Special TV Yellow. To say that I am impressed is a HUGE understatement! I've never heard such wonderful sounding P90s; These sound even better than the P90 Dogear on my 1960 Gibson Les Paul Junior. The balance and clarity, even with pretty high gain, is unbelievable! These pickups clean up wonderfully read more when you roll down the volume knob on the guitar. Where I am most impressed, even surprised, are the picking volume dynamics! My gosh, even with moderately high gain; pick softly and they really clean up; play hard and they ROAR to life!! Did I mention, to top it off; No 60 cycle hum!! I really feel these pickups will improve my playing immensely; as I now can hear exactly what and how I'm playing. I'll really be able to work on and improve my picking. Thank you Sweetwater and Mojotone!!

Terrific tone! Great solution for P90 fans

I have always loved P-90's for their versatility. They sound big and round clean, and snarly and gritty when driven. They can make a guitar solo sing and really cut through a mix. In fact, my favorite guitar is an SG Jr. with a single dogear P-90. It is on every recording I've done in the last 10 years. That being said, I have not gigged much with my favorite guitar over the years. read more The neon and flourescent lighting in most clubs and bars, as well as the multiple big-screen TVs wreak havoc with hum, especially through an overdriven amp. Noise gates are fine, but can be hard to manage if you use a lot of picking and guitar volume dynamics. P-90's can also sound thin and dodgy if the club P.A. is not the best or soundman is not careful. My biggest fear is that I have heard quite a few "hum-canceling" P-90's that did not sound good to my ears. I ordered a Hot Quiet Coil P-90 through Jordan here at Sweetwater. The "Hot" version has more windings and a slightly boosted bass and low-mid. I can honestly say that my Sg Jr. has never sounded better! All the P-90 bark and sweetness is still there. The sparkly top end still shines, and leads still cut like a razor. No spiky treble and no muddy bass! The boosted lows and low-mids are hardly noticeable clean, but really help the guitar stand out through a driven amp. The tone is pure P-90, but just a little fatter and with a little more grit. Perfect for my style of playing. The solos have that trademark "singing" quality, and the last couple of recordings have been stellar in terms of sitting in the mix! What an awesome pickup! My #1 will be going back out on stage! Highly recommended!

Seriously the best!

Ok I have a bias against hum-cancelling pickups that try to claim they sound like real single coils. They have all left me with a bad taste until now. A friend of mine loaned me his real '60 Les Paul Special and didn't tell me it had Mojotone Quiet Coils in it. They looked like the original pickups because he used the original covers and aged the polepieces. Fooled me because the read more tone was incredible and I couldn't believe how little noise there was. Then he reviled to me the secret weapon being the Mojotone Quiet coils. I ordered a set and replaced the original P-90's in my '78 special which I love, and these pickups took it to a whole new level. Quiet, full sounding, the right midrange bark and bite, cleans up with volume, and NO HUM! I would recommend these highly to anyone looking for authentic P-90 tone and no hum. There's nothing even close to these.
