What a Les Paul should sound like
I bought a new Epiphone Les Paul Standard, and to be honest it was disappointing. It didn't sound anything like a Les Paul, very weak and absolutely no presence. After lots of research and thought, I picked up a pair of these pickups for it. I installed them along with a new wiring harness, and while putting it back together I decided to install a set of light gauge flat-wound chromes… read more I had sitting on the shelf. The results were nothing short of amazing, it is a completely different guitar. It has a very bluesy, deep voice with tons of sustain and buckets of tone. These are a huge upgrade over stock and well worth the investment.
Holy Grail of Clean Warm Tone
If you want clean warm tone, this is the pickup, especially in the neck position...these sound great in my Les Paul's, and I'm going to try them in a Telecaster and an Epiphone 335 too...
Versatile Sound
I bought a pair of these years ago and they have lived in several different guitars. I took one of them out and de-soldered the cover off of it. I installed it in a junk guitar I had pieced together with random (but quality) parts. I put the pickup in the bridge position where it would be bright and crunchy. It sounds AMAZING. '57s are super expressive
I have '57 and '57 plus combo in my LP - they are super expressive and respond to how you attack the strings. There are plenty of great sounding pups out there, and these sound fantastic of course as other reviewers have stated, but these are the ones that let me express myself the most in my playing.
Exceptionally Warm Tone
If you are looking for warmth I would recommend you check out this pickup. I upgraded the pickups on my Epiphone Sheridan II several years ago with this and the '57 Classic Plus and I couldn't be happier. Not recommended if you are playing heavier music, hard rock or metal but if you are playing rock, Blues, or Jazz you couldn't spend your money on a better pickup.
