Probably my favorite of the Fender HW series...
I own too many amps (lol) including the '64 Princeton HW and '57 Deluxe HW models, also great amps in their own right. Comparatively, the '62 Princeton has a really unique voicing. Very mid focused, warm, "woody" tone, and packs a punch for 12 watts. The trem is excellent, I love keeping it barely on, adds an additional harmonic richness to the amp for sure. I did upgrade the… read more tubes to NOS RCA's and had it re-biased properly (my amp tech said it was biased pretty cold from the factory), it took a really good stock amp to a great amp. Takes pedals very well (love the King of Tone through this amp) and really pops in a mix due to the mid forward voicing. Sweetwater is always excellent to work with as is Aric Brenner. If you have any hesitations, I can say from experience, this amp is one of the best from Fender and very unique. I greatly respect Chis Stapleton's abilities, but am not a die hard fan by any means, I sure am glad he got this one into production with Fender though! An excellent amp for sure and should last a lifetime! I am not parting with mine.
Pleasantly surprised!
I did not expect to like this amp as much as I did! Worth every penny!
Absolutely Stunning
It's a beautiful amp. The sound is unique in its clarity and smoothness. The tremolo is unbelievably rich. Really has me feeling my late night jam sessions like never before. At once vintage and modern—I don't feel trapped in any era; timeless. It just sounds absolutely stunning.
Hilariously Good
It's a recreation of a 60's era practice amp. It's small, boxy sounding, doesn't have much throw and won't compete with a drummer unless you mic it thru the PA. It has zero features other than tremolo. It compresses and folds easier than gift wrap. But it has the most ridiculously sweet, easy to hit, overdriven midrange crunch and one of the best tube driven tremolo's you'll… read more ever hear. It's so lush and enveloping you just can't stop playing. It's hilarious that I paid $ for this amp. But I can't stop playing it. I have several other really nice amps but I'm always like, "I bet that Princeton would probably sound pretty good for this" and it always does. It records amazingly well. It's just fun. Consider it your sports car. You might not drive it everyday but you're happy when you do. And I'm off to the rehearsal room to plug it in…
Hands Down.....
Best amp I have ever played through! Just has the sound I've heard in my head all these years. Fender done this one right.
