I have my "Twin" back! The Guitar Gods have smiled on me :-)
I owned a '60s twin in the early 70s and sold it in 75. I was so much "Older" then, I am younger than that "Now". I have a high-end pro home studio and wanted to get the 6L6 tube sound to blend with my Kelley Boutique '82 F.A.C.S. 30/60's 6V6 tubes. Glorious with an Ox Box, close mic'd with a Royer R-121/SM 57 combo, and at one foot, a Royer R-10. The R-121 goes through an ELI… read more Mike e mike pre and Com/SaT box with the Royer R-10 through a Heritage Audio HA-73 EQ 1073 mic pre into a Focusrite Clarett 8Pre using Reaper 6. The SM-57 uses a Clarett preamp. The final stereo pair is the DI from the IR on the Ox Box. I can mix a blend of the mics with a Shure Beta 57 on the Kelley for an insane tone for rock or jazz. Being it is the Sweetwater exclusive Wine Red version with the Celestions it is 15 punds lighter than my old twin
No other amp sounds like the 85W twin reverb
My wife bought this for me for Christmas. It arrived about three weeks ago and she wouldn't let me open it until Christmas. I have wanted a twin reverb for years. Some one in another review called it his first big boy amp, and I have to echo that. I have been playing a Vox AC-15 which is a good amp but does not compare. The sound that comes out of this amp reaches deep inside me… read more somewhere. I was really concerned it was going to be to loud to play in my music room, but it is not. I get a great sound at a very livable volume. I also read that it was a good "pedal" amp and boy were they right. I could go on and on, but this amp will change your playing.
Love this amp
I bought this amp a few months ago and just haven't had time to sit down and put it through its paces. I sure did that today. Rode this little pony hard after warming her up a bit. The sound is incredible at low, medium and nearly full (8ish) volume. The highs and mids are crisp and the lows are clean. I was rattling windows and melting paint off the walls at 3 volume in my little… read more music room so took the rig outside to hear what it would do at louder volumes. Still nice clean sounds on all the guitars I played through it. I don't use many pedals but the few I do sounded perfect through this amp. I was curious about the volume. I live in the hills and called my buddy that lives about 1-1/2 miles down the hill as the crow flies. I asked him to go in his backyard and tell me what he heard. He told me he heard some guy on a guitar that needs a lot of practice. But he recognized a soft ballad "Can't help falling in love" (I was surprised he could hear that one at the distance), The Bluest Blues and Whole Lotta Love. Said he heard the last two easily. That blew my mind. I'm looking forward to much more time with this amp. Whole I'm writing this, I want to give a big shout-out to my Sweetwater guru, Ryan Wiltermood. Guy is awesome, always there for me with the best suggestions and advice. Sweetwater and their staff are the best. Thanks for being there.
Great amp
It sounds amazing, but a touch pricey (then again so is any decent amp). Very much so worth the upgrade to celestions. The cabinet is sturdy and about 20lbs lighter than my ac30. If you can hear the difference between pine and birch construction, my condolences to you. The tolex is coming unglued after about a year. You might want to mod the bright cap– doesn't really nail the… read more right high frequencies when engaged. Channel one is finicky (confirmed over the phone with sweetwater), but not worth shipping the amp for an exchange that might exhibit the same issue. Reverb on both channels and an in phase out of phase switch are noteworthy mods. Personally, I find the wine red to be a little too fancy pants. If you want a loud, clean, tight amp–you'll be satisfied.
