Mojo Tone 72 Humbuckers
I have a Squire 72 Thinline Telecaster. After a fret level, setup and some other mods, it has become a very good playable guitar. Even better to me than more expensive guitars. However, was not happy with the stock pickups. Muddy, dull and inarticulate. I chose the Mojo Tone 72 Clones because the price was decent, the reviews were good and I've used their pots and caps as replacements… read more being very happy with them. So after putting these new pups in, plugging the guitar in and hitting a G chord I instantly had a smile. As I played a bit and made a few adjustments I knew I had made the right choice. Not muddy, clear, articulate and just an overall nice tone. IMHO, I feel my Squire 72 Thinline is on par with my Les Pauls and my USA Fender Deluxe Tele. Hats off to Mojo Tone, Sweetwater and my Sales Engineer, Allen Finkbeiner.
Really brought the instrument to life.
Purchased to replace the original pups in my 72 tele reissue. WOW. I'm speechless, these sound phenomenal. I mean they really are great pickups. So bright and full of creamy rich tone goodness.
Update to my review after pot change
So I switched to 500k pots like Mojotone recommends....not for me. Way too bright and the midrange "twang" disappears. So I'm either going back to 250k pots or perhaps something just a hair brighter like 300 or 330k pots. Great pickups either way. Much better than the stock pickups.
Great pickups
Installed in my 72 ReIssue Thinline. Wow, brought the guitar to life. I kept the stock pots, not sure if they are 500k like MojoTone recommends (i forgot to check) but I wanted to do a fair comparison. Changing to 500k pots, will make a big difference in tone and output. So I only changed out the pickups to hear how they sound compared to the stock muddy, dull pickups. All else… read more the same for consistency. Well worth the money spent. Nice Telecaster "twang" but with more beef and output on the bridge. Both pickups on together sound bluesy blissful. Very open, articulate and harmonic. Neck alone is very transparent and "flutey". Great set of pickups. Pricey, but compared to other updated Full Range pickups its still competitive. The stock Full Range pickups aren't really Full Range. They are just standard Fender basic humbuckers in a Full Range package. These are actually made the same winding specifications as the vintage but with Alnico pole magnets.
Very great pickups!!
I recently notice on my 72 deluxe that the stock wide range pickups has some muddiness to them. Mainly on the neck pickup. I felt like there was some high in loss. I started to search for some pickups over a Lollars but I just couldn’t pay that much. I saw mojotone pickups on YouTube and started to really enjoy the tone and the definition. Luckily Sweetwater had just recently… read more started to carry them so I went ahead and got them with free shipping! Installed them and I was definitely blown away by the articulation. They have a higher outputs and very buttery sound on the bridge. I highly recommend them if you have a Fender 72 deluxe tele.
