Original 60s J Bass neck
There's not much to say about this neck. It looks great and it feels amazing in the hand. By far my favorite bass necks I've played or owned. There is just one major flaw with this neck. There is nothing protecting the logo at all. So if you even touch the logo a wrong way, it will scratch off. I didn't even play one note before I accidentally touched part of the logo and it came… read more off. In my option, this neck costs too much for the anything to come off so easily; even if it's the "original" way they did logos back then
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...
...but Fender USA has been goofing these necks up lately. I have personally seen and measured 3 different 60's American Original JB Necks now, all with manufacture dates in 2021, and all have had the same problem. The corner radius of the neck heel does not match the corner radius of the Fender Jazz Bass neck pocket. My bass is a 62 American Vintage Reissue JB, precisely what this… read more neck is supposed to fit. The first photo shows my old neck, and how it fit into the pocket perfectly with no gap to the pickguard. You can also see that the corner radius curves match the neck pocket curves. The second photo shows how the new necks fit, with a mismatched corner radius that pushes the neck backward, leaving a visible gap to the pickguard and neck pocket. Fender Customer Support DID give me their own spec of what this radius should be, which is 3/8". My old neck matches that spec exactly (the curve fits inside a 3/4" circle, and radius = 1/2 the diameter). I measured the new neck corner radius to be 7/32", about twice as tight as the curves should be. I DID succeed in getting Fender to admit this was a problem, so they generously sent me a replacement neck - with the exact same problem. I'm giving up on this for now, it seems if I want a neck to fit my Fender I'll have to get it from some other manufacturer.
Finally Replacement necks from Fender
Genuine neck, great fit, sounds just like the original. Worth the wait and the price. My '69 JBass LIVES!
Fender Sees the Light....almost
After many years of waiting to be able to buy genuine Fender necks, they finally arrived. The Original '60's REPLACEMENT NECK.Looks right, feels right.......but why don't my original vintage '69 tuners fit?????????? The holes Fender drilled for the tuners are too large for the posts AND the holes for the mounting screws do not line up. I guess that after you spend almost twice… read more the price of the other replacement necks, you have to pony up another $ to pit non-original tuners on it.
