LITTLE MARSHALL

Chris Jones

I currently own quite a few old Marshall amps from 1967-1974. I run them through old Marshall cabs with various Celestion greenbacks. If you have ever heard a Marshall plexi cranked with a Gibson Les Paul then you know where I am going with this review. This little amp produces those type of tones without peeling the paint off the wall. Now I am not saying you will get the same read more experience as a 100 or 50 watt amp dimed but it does produce the same tone. I did however change the stock speaker to a Celestion 10" greenback which adds a little more compression and gets you much closer to a Marshall. For the price this amp is a no brainer. If you are looking for Fender tones this is not your amp. The irony in all of this is that this little amp gets closer to Marshall tones than the smaller Marshall amps. But then again Marshall did steal the old Fender Bassman schematic.

Does everything Fender claims

I waited about 9 months to write a review. This is a wonderful practice amp! It's gives you a nice bit of edge-breakup without being too loud for the neighbors. You trade a max-clean sound for a very nice bit of 60s + 70s British sound. The Celestion Ten-30s are terrific speakers, just right for this resonant cabinet. The balance between the Gain and the Master is about as read more good as it ever gets. The three knob equalization is a virtue in any amp. I honestly think just about anybody would like this amp and find a place and uses for it. I actually got to play it in a church and it sounded "Heavenly" with all that natural reverb. I play mostly a couple of very nice Telecasters through it. It's a great amp for playing early Beatles/George Harrison tunes through; but much more versatile than just that.

Best practice/bedroom amp

I really wish that this had been the first low-wattage amp I'd ever bought. I wouldn't have bought the others, and could have saved that money (which I would have spent on a Telecaster). This amp is a great design. The cleans are perfectly lovely. And driving the gain against the master volume gives you a VERY broad range of distortion. Powerful distortion out of 7 watts! read more Great sound. And the 3-knob EQ is a big plus. [Why don't all amps have that? It makes a huge tonal difference. I have harped to all my friends for years that the Princeton Reverb would be the greatest 12/15 watts amp in history if Fender added a 3-knob EQ. And, that it's one of the reasons the Blues Jr is such a great amp.] And it doesn't get too loud to be considered a bedroom amp. And it's perfectly an in-home practice amp. You can get a great driven sound at surprisingly low volumes. YES, 5-stars all the way.

Great practice amp

I bought this amp to teach lessons with and practice at home. It's loud, it's great at playing clean and dirty, and it's easy to carry. Highly recommend it.

Diminutive Perfection

I have owned this amp for 2 years and the BB15 for almost 3. The 007 is my home practice amp. Very similar tone and response to the 15 which i keep on stage at church. I typically have to learn 3 to 4 songs every week and all demanding varying tones and distortion. Having the 007 allows me to dial in all my pedals and amp settings easily replicating the same to my 15 at church practice read more and during the service. You can get a lot of play out of the 007 with the addition of a delay pedal. If you are budget conscious i recommend a compressor pedal as a second pedal. This will do more for you than a reverb and will give you almost the same effect...almost. if you are after ambiance then get the reverb. Get a second job and get a good drive pedal..tube screamer or an OCD..you cant go wrong and this amp loves them. The amp has a treble boost. Basically that means it makes your tone a little louder, brighter and clear. Your Stratocaster, Telecaster or Les Paul style guitars live off treble boost. Just leave it engaged...for ever. This way you dont need to buy a footswitch. You can use that money to buy you a cheap tremelo or phaser or flanger...this is a Fender by the way. Play around with the gain setting and the eq (base, mids, treble). Gain equals volume and the volume knob equals more tone...thats right...tone. its called an amplifier for a reason...louder is better. Oh yeah some people dont appreciate loud. So crank your volume and your gain as desired to get the tubes cooking and use the volume or output on your guitar or pedals to control the "loud". This is a ten inch speaker but a darn good one. Perfectly matched to the amp and cabinet. This amp doesnt have an effects loop. Effect loops are for ambience (modulation, delay, chorus, reverb, etc). Van Halen, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton go straight in to the front of the amp. It sounds better. And they know better when they hear it.This amp is the best $449 you will spend on an amp. Your inexpensive Squier or Epiphone will sound like a Fender or a Gibson in this amp.trust me on this. I play through this amp a minimum of 2 hours a day..everyday. it is a blast to play and the tones you can get out of it are inspiring. You can use the line out to hook up another cabinet or monitor or p.a. This is called slaving. Slaving to a cab or amp with a different speaker can add some interesting tone. รท. I hope you buy it. Enjoy it. Love it. Play it. In fact i am heating up the tubes on my 007 right now.
