I installed these on a vintera 60's modified with s1 switch. They come close to the Les Paul sound. I have only had them installed for a week so I really haven't played with them much.

Buried deep in my closet I had a 3 year+ old Mexican Stratocaster. I always really loved the Midnight Wine finish but the guitar was replaced with a Roadhouse Strat (one of the originals with the Texas pickups.) When Seymore Duncan released the Red Devil pickups I decided that it was a perfect time to dig the old Strat out of the closet and upgrade it, Ounce I got the guitar back… read more from the shop I have been very impressed by these pickups. The back pickup sounds almost identical to the Pearly Gates bridge pickup that SD has been making for years. The front pickup produces great blues tones. The middle pickup tones are great for rhythm and soloing. The surprising thing was that the paired combos still have the twang you get from standard single coils, And on top of it all, they"re quiet. The best of both worlds in one guitar. Thank you, SD, & Billy G!!!!

This is another great set of pickups from Duncan! As a hobby guitar builder/ customizer I"ve installed a LOT of pickups, and Duncan"s are usually my first choice. These pickups have a sound that"s all their own. If your looking for that Pearly gates sound in all three positions on a strat, you"ll be somewhat disappointed. The closest one to that is the bridge pickup. The middle… read more and neck pickups have a slightly lower output and a more midrange type sound, which is a great choice for a blues players! I installed these and gave each pickup its own volume control, and replaced the five way switch with a three way and then added a QTP passive tone control. The switch controls the neck and bridge pickups and I can use the middle pickup alone or in any combination with the other two including all three on together just by using the volume controls. This setup also opens a whole world of different sounds just by varying the volume of each pickup. These are great pickups that I would highly recommend, especially to blues players!
