Poorly designed capo
This capo isn't well designed. The top part is just a little longer than the 6 string version, but the bottom piece which goes against the back of the guitar's neck cannot be centered properly on the neck. If you center it on the back of the neck, the low E strings on a 12-string don't get covered by the top piece of the capo. The only way to cover all the strings is to have the… read more capo off center and clamped tightly on the guitar's neck, which is probably not good for the neck. There is also string buzz on the high octave strings. If I use the capo on a 6-string electric guitar, the strings are out of tune, rendering it useless. Also, Shubb didn't respond to my email asking a question about the capo before buying it. Would have returned it, but not worth it as the return policy deducts a high shipping charge from the refund. Not recommended.
Capos are NOT "one size fits all"
I find in frustrating when reviewers do not specify with WHAT instrument they are using the product. The two previous 5 star reviews led me to purchase this for my 12 string Taylor 254ce, but it does NOT work with this guitar. The neck thickness setting for this item (even with the tension screw all the way out) barely allows it to clamp on to the 2nd fret. Anything above that… read more and not only is it so tight the entire array goes randomly sharp, but I fear it could cause damage to the instrument. Oddly enough, the standard Shubb S1 6 string capo I have works better, fits better, tension is correct, but the bar is a little short when going above that 2nd fret. I like Shubb products, but the fact that this model does not work on a Taylor 12 string gets it the 1 1/2 stars. Different guitar, maybe more stars.
A capo that really works for the 12-string guitar!!!
After much frustration in trying to find a capo that ACTUALLY works for a 12 -string, my Sales Engineer, Lindsey Becker, suggested I try a Shubb. With a few different colors and a couple of different designs, I settled upon the Shubb C3K Capo Noir. I love the look of the black chrome. But the real beauty of this capo is --- it actually works !!! Easy to put on and take off and… read more easy to adjust on the fly. And - NO MORE DEAD STRINGS!!! For reference - I am using the Shubb C3K Capo Noir on my Guild D-1212 12 string guitar. A 5-star capo + 5-star customer service = WIN WIN!!!!
Right on !
