Stellar
I started using compression pedals around 1992-1993. In the 30 years I've been fortunate to have owned and played many. I've be in love with Origin Effects compressors since they came out. I have and have owned just about every one of them, including the big box models. Honestly, this is all I need. It will get to the SlideRig style as well as the standard Cali76 and more. This… read more is truly the ultimate and best sounding compressor I have owned or played. Very impressive Origin, very impressive.
Studio grade compression. (X2)
I have a collection of quite a few overdrives, a preamp/buffer, and a Keeley 4 knob compressor. This stacked compressor may be the best of all of them. Easy to dial in, with a ton of fantastic sounds. Once I got the hang of it I couldn't believe how familiar it sounded, from having heard the 1176 on many recordings from my youth. Read the Origin Effects article on how to use compression… read more and you get it. I prefer it after a low to medium gain overdrive. Great for practicing at low volumes if you live in an apartment or early morning/late night. Helps preserve the attack and high-end while giving you the sustain and dynamic control you need. This may be the most useful and versatile pedal I own. Try it, you won't be disappointed. Shout out to Nolan Dye at Sweetwater, extension 3469, give him a call, great guy to talk to about the kind of gear you need to make your musical life better.
Game changer
Worth every penny!
Holy S%^$
I have a Keeley compressor pedal and it's definitely better than not having one, but always left me wishing for more. Came across this and since I had a gift card to offset some of the price, I went for it! It was noticeable enough that my wife who almost NEVER in 30 years of near daily playing says anything pointed out how nice I sounded the first hour I had it plugged in. … read more I set it to the "always on" setting that was in the manual and played for a good while just enjoying everything that much more. One of the more impressive pieces of musical equipment I have ever used. Very inspirational and musical piece of gear. It's definitely not inexpensive, but If you can swing it, you will probably not need much else ever. Built like someone really cared about it and sounds like that too. I have no reason to believe that I won't be using this in my pedalboard from now on, forever.
One and done! An absolute winner!
Over the last two years I've designed and built a spectacular guitar rig costing over 10k. My most recent addition was this Cali 76 stacked Edition. Since my rig consisted of entirely hand soldered Mogami platinum cable with solid copper conductor/high clarity plugs my signal chain is insanely clear and dynamic. I had tried several top notch compressors but this one absolutely hit… read more the mark. Coming equally from a studio engineering background as well as being a guitar player for 20 years of course I thought of a few things that I'd love the pedal to have but it would not be possible without enlarging the unit further and this just barely fit. My problem with most other compression pedals (especially Keeley 4knob) was that I could always hear and feel the little F er compressing and so I'd want to turn it off regularly. Now I get all the compression I need and can't detect anything unless I really exaggerate the settings. Super clean, transparent and effective! Anothe thing is that my old pedal would pop a bit when engaged.. not this one. A rather clean transition when activating the pedal. One downside is that the pedal will not pass signal if it looses power and it has no battery option as a backup if a PS dies during a show. I run at 18v because the headroom is great! Get a super trustworthy power supply and hope for the best! Enjoy and be pleasantly surprised at how much you can't hear the effects of your... purchase! Haha that's what it all about.
