Amazing Amp
I learned more about tone with this amp than from years of spinning multiple knobs and pedals! I would recommend installing (super simple) the Z-brake attenuator fir even more versatility, as it can get pretty loud when east of north on the volume knob.
What a magical amp
I had a 1x10 Ghia combo and gigged for several years. Not only was it small and light (great for to and from the car) but it's sound was fantastic. It's the ultimate grab-n-go gigging amp. Yes, it only has two knobs, but the tone is in there. It will make you a better guitar player. The amp reacts to every nuance you give it. Touch, pick attack, aggressive or light playing....all… read more these things make a difference with the Ghia. You'll end up using all those things to create different sounds. When I was still gigging, I would arrive at the venue, set up the amp, turn it on and play a few chords to make sure everything was working. Every time I did that, it sounded magical. EVERY time. Just hit an E or A chord...and I would stop and say "wow...that really DOES sound great". That feeling never got old.
Just because your roommate moved out and took his copy of Exile.......
One of my friends used to have a Dr Z Carmen Ghia and he left it at my studio for a long time. Eventually he came and got it so all of a sudden the coolest amp in my studio was gone. It was difficult. It was a lot like having your room mate's copy of Exile On Main Street for years and all of a sudden it was gone. "darn it, I have to go get my own copy of Exile?" After having… read more that "Iost my copy of Exile" feeling for too long I went out and got my own Dr Z Carmen Ghia. I can't believe this was Dr Z's very first amp design. It's just about the simplest amp I've ever owned but it's sneaky good. I like to say if there's a sound that's not in this amp, you don't want it. A ton of great sounds from the volume control and the unique 'sweep' of the tone control is amazing, especially for dialing in your sound on the bandstand. Every time I plug in the "Ghia" I kick myself for that "lost my copy of Exile" period when I didn't have one. If you were thinking about getting a Carmen Ghia, don't delay. Get yours today!
