The Best, But Due Diligence Required
These are incredible pickups, but they DO NOT FIT in a normal humbucker route. This is not a secret, and is one of the first things you'll learn about these pickups if you really look into them. Let the earlier reviews be a reminder that you should always thoroughly research a product before purchasing it. That being said, in all fairness, Sweetwater should include this information… read more in the product listing, since it is so important. It's crucial that the potential buyer know about the larger size of this humbucker, and there's no reason why that shouldn't be prominently displayed in the product description and details. It would have saved at least two people the undue headaches of buying new pickguards and cutting wood out of their guitars.
They are awesome
I bought the neck and bridge CuNiFe wide range pickups to put in my Fender American Pro Tele Deluxe. Turns out it was a bigger project than I bargained for because these pickups are not the same size as regular humbuckers - they are bigger. So, I had to get out my router to increase the size of the route in the body of the guitar. Anyway, I bought all new 1Meg pots, caps, etc. and… read more did it up right per the specs of a 70s tele deluxe. Also had to order a new pickguard to accommodate the pickups. Anyway: These pickups rock and this tele deluxe is now my go-to guitar. The sound cuts through the mix. There is lots of grit, but more high end than a regular humbucker. I am contemplating putting one of them in the bridge position of an HSS Strat....
Installation
The pickups themselves are great but just know if you have a Delexe Tele, they may not fit, in my American Deluxe I had to 1, order a new pickguard, these pickups have 4 screws not 3, and are slightly larger. Also it would not fit the body route, I had to route the wood just slightly larger to make these fit, so they are not a drop in replacement for a shawbucker.
Cunife Wide Range Humbuckers are back!!!
I bought a bridge pickup to complete a new pick guard for a Classic '72 Telecaster Deluxe with a vintage Cunife I had for the neck position. The pairing is magical. The new bridge Cunife pickup is bright (not harsh), it cuts through perfectly while being a humbucker all the way and it works with a vintage one. They are definitely "cut from the same cloth." It does not get muddy… read more or bad sounding with overdrive either - it handles whatever you throw at it. I'm very pleased and I'd recommend these pickups for wide range humbucker applications.
