Quality. Value.
It plays really well. I prefer it to my plek'd tele. The pickups offer plenty of useful, usable sonic options. Yes, it chimes nicely, and had made good friends with my Blues Jr IV. And it's gorgeous. Not perfect, tho'. Neck dive is a nuisance. Setup is a little high -- will have to invest a few hours tweaking. May opt to plek it -- TBD And I'm waiting for a replacement tuning… read more machine because one of those supplied binds unduly. That said, I only put it down because I have to go to work. Oh yeah -- I found Stringjoy Balanced 10-48 a *much* better choice than the stock strings. Context: I'm primarily an acoustic fingerstyle folk/pop player who dabbles in jazzy blues, and have been playing for 50+ years. On my better days. I'm good enough to get a bar room to stop talking and listen.
Great first guitar!
Great shape, great weight, great feel, great tone, great price! As a beginning player, this guitar has been exactly what I need. Very easy to play, and for the price is a nice guitar. Hard to beat the look of a semi hollow!
Only Had One Day; Here is why it is 5 stars!
So I just opened up this guitar after it sat in the box for about 28 hours in my living room. I have three guitars: an American Fender Strat, a Chinese Les Paul copy, and a Gretsch Streamliner. I took a chance on this guitar because I have always wanted a Gibson ES-339 but can't afford one. The humbuckers in this guitar (Seymour Duncan HB 102N and HB 101B) are fantastic. The… read more neck pickup has lovely warm jazzy tones with a lot of variety in the tone knob. The bridge is more bluesy, also has great variety in the tone knob, and sounds great with my amp set to "crunch" with about 1/4 gain (Boss Katana 100). The finish is wonderful. I love the detail all over the guitar. Sweetwater sold this guitar as a demo and acknowledged some scratches but I can't tell that there are any. The guitar is new to me. The neck is fast, on par with my Strat. The guitar resonates wonderfully. I can play it like an acoustic unplugged when I need to be quiet. I have experimented with pickup combinations as well as both crunch and clean settings on my amp and I am able to produce every sound I love from my Gretsch Streamliner and also my Les Paul copy. I don't see picking those guitars up anytime soon. This guitar is easier to play than both of the aforementioned guitars and is so versatile with the endless combinations of pickup positions and tone knob variation. One final note; the guitar came with D'Angelico strings, .01 - .046. I love these strings, I love the tone and the feel. I will be buying these when I need to restring. They seem like they are made for this guitar. I am now a huge fan of D'Angelico. I was already a fan of Sweetwater with their top notch service.
A good buy
I'm surprised how much I play this guitar. I own many and usually play while relaxing so this guitar is light weight and plays with great action and sounds.
Beautiful Instrument
Looks great, plays great, and most importantly.... it sounds amazing! Would have given it a full 5 stars if not for the neck diving. But that's not a major concern for me as I'll be using it mainly sitting down in the studio. This is a stellar guitar!
Mini DC
light and comfortable this little guitar is the perfect size. The finish and fit are excellent and the action is better than average. Pickups are bright and hot. Overall I recommend this guitar as a fine addition to anyone's collection or as an every day player.
