Like most of you guys, I'm a guitar fiend. I've amassed a stupid amount of quality guitars that I almost never play, but I swear they all have their purpose. I recently purchased a Jem jr. because I wanted something different and I didn't want to pay the pia price. I swapped the pickups and chose this for the bridge... and, to put it mildly, not being a Vai guy I must say he crafted… read more a pickup that really adds the perfect amount of bite to an H S H style guitar. Play this puppy on a tube amp and its got its vintage vibe, but it certainly chimes with a little 'dirt' if you're a thrasher kinda guy. Full disclosure, the other pickups are Utopia (and they sound great!), but that bridge DM2 is really what makes that guitar. It cuts through everything without being too trebly.
Update...
Just a quick update after fiddling around with this pickup for nearly a year. It's been pretty versatile for me (it handles blues, rock and metal quite well; sounds great clean as well). Right now it's in a roasted ash-bodied, roasted maple-necked guitar and still isn't shrill! Your mileage may vary. My only 'complaint' is that I think it could use a bit more output. The thing… read more I enjoy most about it is still the note separation and a very even voice. Certainly one of Dimarzio's designs that seems to be under the radar.
Well Rounded
First, I'm glad Dimarzio finally decided to sell these without the fancy covers! I'm greatly enjoying this pickup. Full but firm bottom end, a reasonable (not obnoxious) amount of mids and enough high end to keep some sparkle (but certainly not enough to be shrill). Cleans up nicely when rolling the volume pot down. Very clear. In some guitars it might sound thin, so I recommend… read more using this in darker/thicker voiced instruments.
Best Bridge HB I’ve Ever Tried. Period.
First of all, let me start off by saying that I"ve played a LOT of pickups. I"ve played countless humbuckers, strat pickups, active pickups, etc in countless guitars and have never came across a bridge pickup that sounds this good. I got these in an Ibanez Jem, and when testing it out through my rig and hearing the different settings for the pickups I realized that the bridge HB… read more was by far and wide the best sounding pickup of the bunch. This isn"t a very common thing at all for me as I usually find that neck HB"s are more often than not the ones they get right, while bridge HB"s tend to be too "quacky" for lack of a better word and shrill and ice picky at worst. Sometimes though, you get a decent one that works very well for leads and has a nice midrange punch. In this case however, you get an amazing range of tonality that can work well for leads as well as rhythm playing. This pickup especially shines with high gain as it is not noisey and has loads of sustain to boot. Harmonics were just flying off the guitar, and bends and vibrato seemed to last forever. Usually, pickups don"t have this kind of responsiveness unless they"re active, but here they are, all without the 9 volt. Dimarzio did a great job with these and I highly recommend this pickup for any mahogany guitar.
Dark matter 2 bridge pickup
Super country clean sound, very full sounding, versatile, great distortion.
