Dimarzio Dark Matter 2 in JEM Jr
Just installed a set of Dark Matter 2 in my JEM Jr,along with Mad Hatter Terminator controls. The installation went well, the only problem I had is the pickup cavities were pretty tight,, I ended up filing some paint and wood to get these pups to fit. They sound incredible, very balanced and articulate both clean and distorted! They really respond to my attack! Even though the wait… read more was a little long, Jake Tillman from Sweetwater kept me updated ever step of the way! The wait was definitely worth it. If you are looking to upgrade your axe,I definitely would look at these. They made a huge difference in a budget minded guitar.
Another Epic Pick up from DiMarzio!
I've use DiMarzio Pick ups on my guitars ever since I put a Tone Zone Bridge and Air Norton on my 90's Les Paul Studio. It made a huge difference in sound of that instrument. That guitar is long gone, now I have a Les Paul Standard Limited Edition that came equipped with Burstbuckers Pro pickups. Pickups sounded good but I wasn't totally sold on them, they where prone to feedback… read more and didn't have that mid level definition that I was looking for. So I was considering a few options when the new woody Jem came out equipped with these. It got me thinking that since new Jem is mahogany bodied (not basswood) the pickups are probably better tune for a denser wood guitar and would work well in any mahogany body guitar. So I got these for my 2005 Gibson Les Paul Standard Limited Edition (Mahogany, Maple top and Ebony fingerboard). They do not just look awesome on this guitar, but sound phenomenal. The Bridge is very Mid focused but has really nice highs. The neck in the other hand is more mid-lows focused so the there is a drastic difference when switching from one to the other but together they give a really fat sound. The neck is very musical so you don't have to roll of the tone to get that nice neck singing tone leads. They both are not as hot as other pickups but still have plenty of punch to drive tube amps into overdrive. Dirty you can get a broad range of lead tones with great harmonics and and great sensitivity to pick attack. Clean they can be very jazzy sounding especially on that middle position. In short whether you want killer shred tones or are looking for a nice balance fat sounding setup these pickups will deliver.
