Switching from Nylon to Steel Strings

Greg Hodnett

My main instrument is trumpet, with The Starlighters Big Band. I have always enjoyed classical guitar too. 30 years ago I laid my guitar down in favor of the trumpet, but recently I picked up the guitar again. I used my Harmony classical guitar to toughen up my fingertips. Then I bought a Fender acoustic guitar that came with Fender strings (11-52 I think). They were too painful read more for me. My guitar teacher suggested these D'adario 10 - 47 extra lights until I my fingers get into prime shape. It turned out great for my situation. They sound very good, if not as rich as the 11s. They bend nicely too. These are perfect for students, guitarists who are switching from classical (nylons), and people with arthritis. I am in all three categories. I will continue using these strings untill I am able to go up one size in favor of a richer tone.

Win Win, Easy to Bend

I have used light and custom light D'Addario strings on my Taylor 412 since 1996. I play my acoustic a lot like my electric, with lots of barre chords and bends, so the 10-47 extra light strings seemed like a set to try. I put a set on Thursday to let them settle in for my Friday night gig. My first impression was they sounded brighter than my D'Addario custom lights. I compensated read more by using a darker sounding pick and increasing the bass slightly on my Fishman Loudbox Mini. The guitar sounded fine. On Saturday I got my guitar out to entertain myself and found the strings has mellowed out. For myself, these strings are a win-win-win situation. They have not removed any of the acoustic guitar vibe just because they are "electric guitar gauged." I get the nice acoustic sound and easy string bending I like. They may also give a little extra volume, a surprising benefit!

Great Strings

I agree with Ozark Johnny,Brandon Howell & Stephon Wasio's Reveiws> I quit looking for the right strings years ago after buying these. I probably tried them all and they either were to mushy or wouldn't stay in tune or turned into crap over night or Rusted within days. You name it and it happened> I won't even try to find any strings that are better. These EJ15 strings are My strings.010-.047> read more I have even left my Martin in the case for a year and not played. And when I got back to it they had some oxidation shure> but were still in tune and sounded good. Yes I put new ones on but it just goes to show how good these strings are. New strings are just Delicious. When I used to play in Bands>new strings on everything every week if not sooner

The ONLY string I will use!

I have played everything and I mean every string there is. When I started playing at the age of 12 I was playing Martin 11s great for big strumming chords but hard on the fingers, I then moved to D'Aquisto 10-52 and loved them but they went out of business, then all could get were Ernie Ball Slinky Acoustic strings, I used them for years cause that's all the store carried, they read more sounded good for a day then Dead! I don't like Ernie Ball strings at all and still don't. After I got my first pack of Daddario Electric strings when I was 17 I loved em so much I said hmm let's try em on my acoustic, so I went for the 10-47. I ain't looked back since!! The perfect string! Light enough to play lead on and heavy enough on the low side to lay into the rhythms. They are very balanced and dynamic and they are bright, they stay in tune amazing, they have good clarity and warmth. Everything you would want in an acoustic string and more! No matter what you put em on I have them on both My ovations , my Martin, and my Washburn! You can't go wrong! Best there is!

I've tried a few brands and these seem to be the best. And of course, Sweetwater sells them cheaper than everyone else. And free delivery helps. And no tax.
