Great if you want to sound like an upright

Ben

Okay, it can also sound like the bridge pickup of a jazz bass too. If you are looking for THE classical rock and country sound (and you don't want a P Bass for some reason, let's just say it's allergies) this is the bass for you. The neck is slim and narrow like a Rick bass and the action can get ridiculously low. Now some things of note. This bass sets further left than a fender. read more I mean that literally, not politically. It's going to be a bit of an adjustment. Secondly, get a heavy one. There's a lot of neck and not a lot of body, mine is 9.8 lbs and it's balances like circus performer with no net. Lastly, strings are critical to this bass sitting right in a mix. I use cobalt flatwounds and it brings this bass to life. The cobalt is much brighter than normal flats but it retains the "thud". I play in a country band. This is exactly what I needed for my "one and five all night" gigs. Your mileage may vary. Not for slap.

Epiphone instruments may have some quality issues. Here and there a customer gets a bad one. Thankfully, the one I purchased from Sweetwater is nearly flawless. I did have to level and re-crown one fret. I replaced the factory roundwound strings that came on the bass with medium gauge La Bella flatwounds. Perfect. I then set the intonation and adjusted the string height to a low read more clearance. No dead notes or buzzing. Again, perfect. The neck is very ergonomic and plays with minimal effort. The bass is neck- heavy. I rest my forearm on the bass body to counter the neck and headstock weight. This works and does not interfere with playing the instrument. The Epiphone EB3 is aesthetically a beautiful bass. Every quality aspect about the bass is comparable to that of a $1,500 bass. The hard shell case is sturdy. The pair can be purchased for a shade over $. And that is a fantastic price.

Great Bass, Great Price!

Absolutely in love with this bass. Offers a nice contrast to my Precision, and it's capable of so many different tones, from hi-treble/mid rocking fills to a fat bass-y low end just like you'd hear in a Cream song. Doesn't hurt that it looks great to boot. Definitely a great purchase and a highly underrated bass for its price.

My new bass just came in and after I got it unpacked I sat down with a tuner to check it out and to my surprise it"s ready to play right out of the box. I couldn"t be happier. Thanks Sweetwater!

AWESOME BASS GUITAR

Although this is my very first bass guitar after playing regular guitar for more than 50 years I can tell you that I know quality when I see it, and especially when I hear it. After having played many other bass guitars in the store on different occasions I final decided to purchase this one from Sweetwater and I am soo glad that I did. This guitar has great tonal range due to how read more the electronics are set up in it.. The pickups are very responsive as well as all the controls. It plays as good or better than it looks compared to all the other bass guitars I played. The ebony finish is just gorgeous. The neck of this guitar is tethered directly into the body giving it hat extra UMPH !!! and adding to it's tonal qualities. It is headstock heavy and wants to point to the ground if you are not holding it up. This is easily compensated for by getting a wide ROUGH LEATHER guitar strap that helps keep it from doing that. You can also add just a 1 LB. weight to the guitar strap where it meets the strap button on the bridge side of the guitar to help keep the neck pointed upwards. However I found that the leather strap works just fine for me to help keep the guitar from wanting to dip down.

Sweetwater experience

The EB3 has exactly the sound for the music I love. A little gritty for some tastes, but for rock perfect. Easy to play, thin neck for us with less than large hands. Controls are simple and easy to use. The fit, finish and overall appearance was perfect. No blemishes, nicks, scaches, etc. It was even in tune when I received it. The staff at Sweetwater were phenomenal. It may be read more the best I have ever dealt with in my many days. From beginning to end a six star experience. Come for the excellent bass, stay for the service.
