Fender EXP-1 Mustang Expression Pedal
I was in need of a volume pedal to use with my Fender Mustang GTX50 amp. I owned a passive volume pedal that I tried, first in series between the guitar and the amp, then in the effects loop. Neither was satisfactory. While the pedal had an adjustable setting for minimum volume with the pedal not depressed, it was dependent on which amp and effects were being used. So where… read more a fully depressed pedal might result in a 50% reduction in volume, the same pedal setting might result in almost no volume reduction for a different set of modeled conditions. Since the EXP-1 pedal plugs into Mustang amp in the footswitch jack, it is obviously in a different part of the signal path. And it works! Regardless of which modeled amp or sets of effects are chosen, the minimum user-adjustable setting will yield the same results when the pedal is depressed. This does not mean that you have to give up the footswitch. The footswitch and pedal are simply daisy-chained together. Note that the jack on the bottom of the pedal for connecting to the footswitch is labeled for the MS-4 footswitch, but it also works for the newer 7-button footswitch, which is what I have. I have not tried the pedal in the expression mode, but I would expect it to work well.
Works well
Has to be programed which is no big thing just takes a while
Fender EXP-1
Purchased this to go along with my Mustang III. For all you out there that think you know how these things work - plug in and play - read the instruction!! It work much better for me after I read and followed the directions to calibrate the pedal. I'm from the 60's and was accustomed to a Cry Baby Wah-Wah, so this had big shoes to fill!! It isn't a direct replacement, but it does… read more work pretty well. As a volume pedal, this is also good as it gives pretty good control throughout. The Green LED could be a little brighter, but that's about the only negative I had. Just know that from the brief time I've used it, it is easier to program through the Fender Fuse application than from the amp itself. All in all, I like it, and I'd recommend it.
A must for theMustang 5 Amp
Dad is learning, but this makes him want to play even more with his Mustang 5 amp head
