Great Fretless Bass!!
This is a good fretless. Be advised though the action from fretlines 1 to around 5 is really low because the nut is cut really low obviously because its a fretless. I would suggest bigger gauge strings if you want the first position action to be higher just experiment and see what works. LaBella White Nylons are fantastic on this bass as well.
Fretless Heaven
It is my Birthaday and while sitting in my Studio aroumd noon, FedEx dropped off my present. Fender Player Fretless Jazz Bass. I have a MIM Fretted Jazz and an MIM Strat that I have enjoyed for years. This is Quality stuff for a killer price point. I pluuged the new Fretless into my Apollo Quad (from Sweetwater) and pulled up an SSL channel strip. This is "The Sound!". Killer instrument.… read more I will be laying down tracks soon. Sweetwater has set a high Standard in their customer service, candy, and phone calls (Thanks Jeff!). The biggest reason I purchased this from Sweetwater is the 55 point check they do on all guitars. The Fretless was set up and ready to go right out of the box. Thank You Sweetwater and Fender, I am in Fretless Heaven.
Player fretless bass
I rally like it!! it plays really nice. A friend ask me to do a video with him and he ask please bring the fretless. He noticed a markable difference in the sound and resonance. I'd d tell anyone considering a fretless, this is a very good one. It's a Fender, so it always delivers. I have a Jaco fretless, but it took years torquier it, but this one I have no problem taking out on… read more a gig. the guys at Sweetwater can answer any questions you might have about the bass. The price is RIGHT!!
Fun Bass!
This bass really is a ton of fun. It's hard to put down once you start playing it. The biggest pleasant surprise for me was how quiet the pickups are. They aren't noiseless, but they're definitely less noisy than I expected. A shout out to my sales engineer, Alden. He was very good listening to my concerns, and helped me with this purchase. Stepped Up!
I've had a few MIM Fender basses over the years, particularly Jazz basses. Had a strong desire to have another fretless Jazz to work out on (fretless can be very meditative), so I took a long hard look at this new "Player Series" line Fender has come out with. Long story short - this bass immediately felt much improved over the ones I've had in the past, right down to the smooth… read more playing Pau Ferro fretboard. The finish on the neck was surprisingly smooth and fast. I tune to drop D + 1/2 step down as a rule - and the low notes held fast. The pickups were possibly the biggest surprise; in the past I've almost immediately replaced Jazz pickups with hand wound aftermarket (I won't say the brand) - but these delivered all the punch and richness I expect from a Jazz bass. I love that Sweetwater has photos to see of the actual instrument you are buying. It really helped in picking this one out. Played great right out of the box. Now is the time to grab a MIM Fender, IMO. Cheers!
