Fender Mustang PJ Bass

I love this bass. The short scale neck is easier to navigate with my smaller hands. The excellent sound and workmanship are what I have come to expect from Fender. As always , James Masterson does a superb job with customer support and advice.

This bass absolutely nails it, it's all there. Tone, workmanship, easy to play and out of the box I had no adjustments to make ( I have been doing repairs and setups for years). The only thing I did to it was to add a thumb rest, but that's just me. If you're looking for a short scale bass with versatility this one delivers and it's at a great price. Leo would be proud of this one!

Great Bass if you’re switching from guitar

Short scale was great for me coming from guitar, love learning difference between the pickups and each of its tones. I now own this and a P Bass and the Mustang was great to play, gives you many choices for tone.

Great little Bass.

Been looking to get a new Short Scale bass and decided to go with this little modern style mustang. Could not be happier!! played great right out of the box, though I did need a little adjustment & tweaking to get the action where I prefer it. Will eventually put my normal flat-wound strings on it but there is honestly nothing wrong with the standard round-wound strings it comes read more with. Thank you to all the team @ Sweetwater.

Great purchase

I was doing home recordings with my electric and needed an instrument to record bass parts. I didn't really want to get a full-sized bass but came across this short scale. I viewed the video reviews online and like what I heard and saw as many were very favorable. In addition to the comfortable size, I was sold on the PJ configuration which gives one access to a good range of sounds read more to experiment with. I frequently use this in home recoding sessions and I am very happy with the sound it produces. It doesn't hurt that it is very nice to look at. The one downside is this: it's hard to find a gig bag for short scale basses.

Great, comfortable short scale bass

I've played bass for many years (well, I play guitar and own basses!). I didn't even know that short scale bass was a thing! I have an American Jazz Bass, but it's heavy and long for my shoulder, arm and fingers. So short scale seems like the solution. So far this bass is filling the role. It's far more comfortable to play than the full scale. I took off 1/2 star because there's read more a very slight neck dive, probably because of how light the body is. I'm using a Fender elastic strap and that takes care of the issue. The top is beautiful and, as always, the setup from Sweetwater is great.

Amazing bass

So I picked this up a couple of weeks ago, my first short scale bass. Before getting it I thought this would be a fun little bass to play every once in a while but this thing is the only bass I've played since I got it, it's a blast and the tone I'm getting from this paired with my Sans Amp preamp just WOW, seriously in love with this bass. The build quality on mine is excellent, read more finish is perfect, neck shockingly is almost perfect(found one dead fret but that should be an easy fix) no sharp fret edges and from the factory the neck was almost perfect just had to do a little turn on the truss rod and she was perfect, I'm not a fan of roundwound strings so tossed a set of LeBella flats on her and she came alive. I would highly recommend this bass to anyone from beginners to pro's. Their are 2 reason for the 4 star review, first is the pickup switch, it just feels cheap, and the second reason is the bridge pickup, it's so weak it's pointless to use solo so I'll be swapping that out for something different soon along with the switch. But overall this is a solid bass and glad I made the decision to get it.

Excellent! Debunking percieved problems with this bass!

Debunking percieved problems with this bass. Yes the pickup selector is slanted. It was designed that way so get over it already and why does that matter unless you're unable to slightly move your hand? Problems with the switch. I have had NO problems with the switch but then I don't use it like Jimi Hendrix. Usually you find your sound in one position and leave it alone. Problem read more solved.Yes the freetboard may be a bit dry. You really don't know when these were assembled and for the price I seriously doubt Fender takes the time to treat their fretboards. Most people change strings after getting a new bass anyway. Take 20 minutes and use the fretboard conditioner of you choice and you're done. Do that every time you change your strings from then on if it needs more. If you can't take the time then buy one with a maple fretboard but stop whining! The pickups are anemic? Compared to what? This set of pickups sound perfectly big and full to me. If you cannot get that with these then I suggest you have no idea how to set your tones and don't know how to make your amp do the work. The bridge isn't high mass. This bridge will outlive me. It is fully functional and a better bridge than Fender used to put on their American's. All I know is that my Mustang came perfectly set up. Everything works. Fit and finish are flawless and I had NO trouble dialing in the sound I wanted. I am not saying that there are never any lemons when you buy a bass but the things I've read in reviews about this bass are downright picky and some just very silly. It's a $... bass not a $... Alembic but for that $... it doesn't get any better. I have one complaint however. Fender needs to step up their game on making cases for this bass available. In case you hadn't noticed Fender short scale basses are having a moment. You might want to capitalize on that like you do everything else.

Love it

Completely new to bass. Decided on a short scale, very happy with that decision. Love the instrument. Came with standard round wound strings, which are pretty noisy when sliding up and down. Swapped them out with flat wound ones, and it's perfect.

A great mustang

Picked out my fender mustang bass, online. It arrived quickly and ready to go. I am a guitar player, and drummer, and due to my short fingers, a 34" scale bass was difficult for me to play and to adjust back and forth with my guitars. The workmanship on this bass is better than my previous experience with MIM guitars. The tone is easily adjustable and the bass plays well. I look read more forward to a lot of fun with this instrument.
