Great sounding Strat pups
Easy installation and excellent sounding pickups! Zero hum/noise as well! Sweetwater as usual with the excellent product and lightning fast shipping. Thanks Dave
Excellent, Inspirational and QUIET
I purchased a set of these in black along with the matching battery pack, which I recommend. My tech installed them in a really cheap, but super-fun-to-play Strat-style instrument for me. I had him wire it for a master volume, master tone, blender pot configuration, with the master tone pot serving as the push-pull selector for the two voices. I could not be happier with this setup!… read more It is now a 14-sound instrument, and all 14 of those sounds are useful. Very authentically "stratty" in all its flavors. Clean, dirty, driven and distorted sounds are all wonderful. The pickups and their settings are all well balanced, too. Even the bridge pickup by itself is full of character and musicality without the need for rolling down the tone knob (although it is nice to have the option to do so!). I elected not to have the HF Tilt option wired up. To my ears, the instrument sounds perfect. The high end is pleasing to the ear and not harsh. Overall, these pickups sound amazing, fell incredibly responsive and are completely quiet. My tech said doing the blender pot wiring was a little tricky, but ultimately not that big of a deal. I am very pleased with these pickups. I can't imagine going back to passives at this point, to be honest. Many thanks to my excellent Sales Engineer Nich Magnani for hooking me up!
Fishman Fluence pickups
Overall, I really like them. I took off a half star because they seem to sound a little compressed in the 2 and 4 position.
They got it right.
I stumbled on a beat up Fender Aerodyne MIJ Strat, and it turned out to be quite the player. I normally don't swap out pickups, but after seeing Greg Koch demonstrate the Fluence line, I took the plunge. Wish I hadn't waited so long! The set comes with a single push-pull pot to select between vintage and Texas voicings. This is subtle, but useful. I added a second push-pull pot… read more for the HF tilt feature. The intent here is to simulate the high frequency rolloff that occurs when you use a long cable with traditional passive single coil pickups. I find it a quick and easy way to roll off some of the top edge when I'm looking for a less glassy tone. These pickups have so much going from them. Dead silent, no tonal murkiness when you roll back the volume control. But most of all, just pure, strat tone bliss. The optional battery pack holds its charge, and is a much better solution than a battery compartment (or having to remove the pickguard to change a battery).
Exceptional
What every YouTube video fails to capture is how open and transparent these pups sound. On some of the YouTube videos, I actually cringe at the sound. In real life these sound amazing. The best way to describe it is, it's like putting high fidelity pick-ups on your guitar. I mean that in a very good way, not to imply that they are sterile...not at all. They can sing and then blow… read more grit back into your face. They just do it with quality tone. These things are silent. Any noise you hear is your amp, not the pick-up. The choice of two different voicings is also a plus. Would be nice if Fishman would come out with different voicing kits for these. It really shouldn't be that hard to implement. Imagine the possibilities! Highly recommended.
