Believe the hype
Been playing professionally for over 50 years. Have been the owner of some fantastic vintage and new guitars. I pulled the pickups on my PRS McCarty and wax potted them to dull down some of the honkiness and the tendency to feedback. It helped, but stand close to my amp and they picked up a lot transformer hum and crackle. Enter the Fishman Fluence. I had already put them in… read more my Frankencaster and was thrilled at the elimination of noise pickup. Now, I have the Classic Humbucker in my PRS and am stunned by the clarity and dramatic lessening of noise. I wired them up to have 3 voices -- the single coil selection is far more realistic than the coil splitting on the PRS stock pickups. These are on the bright side overall, but not tinny by any means. The articulation is so good that it will make you a better player -- little mistakes show more! NO REGRETS! Addendum: After a week of regular playing, I decided that these guys are just a little too bright, so I did the high frequency "tilt" trick the instructions recommend. Tamed it down beautifully. Very PAF now, but with better definition and articulation, especially the lower notes, but across the spectrum.
