1960 Hummingbird

Great guitar, always attracted to these as a kid! Very nice playability, sounds wonderful. Looks like a Hummingbird! Jared from Sweetwater was extremely helpful in picking among the three available, thanks as always.

Hummingbirds they hum their sound

This guitar has a beautiful, lush sound. It seems to excel at chords, or anything with depth, but it's also good for finger-pickin. With a capo, the tone is so resonant and shimmering it almost sounds like a harpsichord or mandolin. This is the first Gibson acoustic I've ever played - I own a Waterloo MH-12 and a Larrivée parlor, and used to have a 000-1 Martin. So I didn't really read more know what to expect, except what I'd seen on YouTube. But once I started playing it, I could not stop. The sound is just so rich. It's not a Martin sound, but I gather that's the point. The finish is cool, not in-your-face red, and this 1960's version is generally 1/2 pound lighter than other new versions due to the baked top and/or the difference in bracing. For me, I wanted the lightest guitar possible - they always seems to ring out better. Mine is under 4 pounds. I also LOVE the pickguard though I know it's not universally loved. I like the butterfly. It's a freedom party for insects and birds, right there on the pickguard. Overall, beautiful instrument.
