The Semi-Hollow Body to End all Semi-Hollow Bodies
I received my VOS 1959 ES 355 today in the vintage natural finish. When I opened the case and beheld this beauty for the first time, my jaw actually dropped. I hadn't looked at something like that since I saw my wife on our wedding day. What can I say that will do this justice? Nothing, but I will try anyway. It is nothing short of spectacular, in every way. It's as close… read more to guitar perfection as it gets this side of heaven. This guitar is more than an instrument. It is a work of art - truly, the pinnacle of Gibson Custom luthier craftsmanship. This guitar was constructed by people who love their craft and, I dare say, love the people who play their music on their end products. This guitar exemplifies Gibson's heritage and pays the highest respect to what their guitars have meant to so many musicians over the last 100 plus years. Now, I'm gushing. Sorry. This guitar can literally do it all. Anything you ask of it, it can and will excel in doing. Blues? of course - maybe what it does best. This guitar's blues pedigree is unparalleled, hearkening back to the legendary B.B King and his "Lucille." Now I know why he named it. Rock? No problem - the crystal clear custombuckers can handle that and even hard rock, too, if you're into that. Jazz? Only the smoothest standards are worthy of this tone-monster's touch. Country? You got it. Saddle up and bust out this baby. She's ready for a barn-burner. I found myself just strumming through a G chord over and over, just marveling at the clarity and tonal excellence of this guitar. Mesmerizing warmth AND clarity. You get what you pay for, folks. The kids probably aren't 4 year university material anyway, so just pull the trigger. They can go to trade school and will learn more and rack up less debt. Trust me. You will not regret it. No buyer's remorse here. I now own a piece of Gibson history that I will pass on to my son one day, God willing.
