Nice Bass
I was waiting for Sweetwater to get this bass back in stock for about 6 months, as I hesitated too long the last time they had it and it went to someone else. This is my second G&L (CLF L-2000 was first) so I already have experience with the MFD pickup and G&L's awesome saddle-lock bridge. This bass has sustain for days. For a passive bass, the pickups are pretty hot, but it plays… read more with clarity with more mids than most (all?) of the other passive basses I have played. Controls are simple (series/single/parallel + vol, tone) and I find I prefer to stay in series or parallel mode for the punch. To me single coil mode lacks a little ooomph but could definitely be useful. For a one pickup bass with tone control, you can get a lot of different sounds out of this bass depending on where you pluck, and it delivers them well. Love the 1.5" nut, the back of the neck feels like smooth unfinished wood, and the fretwork is perfect. Bass is well balanced and comfortable to play. G&L USA definitely builds quality instruments, and there is no question that you get your $$$ worth. I was expecting a bright orange bass by the pictures, but is more subdued with a coppery look. The Kiloton has a unique voice, and I am not sure I could use it as my only bass, but that is probably due to my limitations as a player. The more I play it, the more I like it. As always, Sweetwater packed well, shipped quickly, and sent me a guitar that needed very little setup before playing.
