Update for my 2010 Les Paul Standard
I wrote a review for this pickup already describing how much i like it on my 2018 Gibson SG Standard..you can read that one too. In fact i liked it so much, i decided to try a Gravity Storm bridge pickup on my 2010 Les Paul Standard. It now has this massive bridge tone that is fat but tight, articulate, powerful low mids, and sweet presence. Best sounding bridge pickup i have tried… read more on this guitar and there have been quite a few including, Gibson 57 classic, 498T, Dimarzio Illuminator bridge, and Satchur8...the Gravity Storm just has the magic the others were lacking on this guitar. The Gravity Storm pickups work so well for heavy rock, prog rock/ metal tones on solid body Gibson guitars.
Harmonically Rich and Clear
I was looking for an Alnico V pickup to replace the Gibson 61T bridge pickup in my 2018 Gibson SG Standard. The 61T just wasn't cutting it....not hot enough, tone not so good, just a disappointment to a long time Dimarzio pickup guy like me :) So i did some research and found that the Gravity Storm had the right specs for what i was looking for...not too hot, not too cold, but just… read more right...the Gravity Storm has a rich tone harmonically with singing pinch harmonics if that is what you are looking for. Nice full lows, mids, and treble. The low end is tight, the mids and treble are dynamic and expressive both clean and with heavy overdrive. The overall tone is smooth with an edge as you would expect from a Steve Vai pickup. I had an Evo bridge in a Charvel Pro shop guitar once....this pickup is not like that...it is everything the Gibson 61T should have been. Perfect pickup for Prog Rock, Hard Rock, classic rock, and most other genres. Not sure about metal...i would say yes but it is not as high output as most metal players prefer. I think it cuts fine though a mix.
Gravity Storm
I put this pickup in the bridge of my S series Ibanez . I used to play a Jem model which is obviously a superior guitar and it also featured an Evo in the bridge. I decided on the Gravity because it was his new pickup at the time. I will say it"s not quite as hot as the Evo was but it is a very fine pickup that is articulate and does have a good deal of meat albeit not as much as… read more the Evo. It works very well for solos it has a lot of response from your attack also. Chords are very clean and defined from this pickup. It may not be hot enough for a metal player but make no mistake this is a very good pickup.
