Great build quality and fantastic sound.

The Rat Rod line is supposed to be a stripped down version of the regular Gretsch Electromatic series, like the stripped down "rat rod" hot rods it gets its name from. It mainly achieves this effect with its, "eye-grabbing red pickup inserts, bound F-holes, aged multi-ply body binding, late-'50s bound headstock, and pearloid Neo-Classic thumbnail fingerboard inlays." In truth, read more these are all great adjustments to an already-stellar guitar line, that make the Rat Rod model stand out from the rest of the Electromatics. It has a very full sound that comes through with both an amp and when unplugged. Even though this isn't an acoustic guitar like most would envision, the larger f holes give it plenty of volume on its own. It has an exceptionally rich depth of tone thanks to its humbucker pickups, rosewood fretboard, and hollow body, and has a highly adjustable sound that really sings when you get the balance just right. I also want to call out that I really enjoy the narrower body, which keeps it comfortable over longer play sessions. In the end, beyond some aesthetics differences, there's really is nothing stripped down about this excellent guitar. I've had mine for a several months, and am absolutely thrilled with it.

I bought this because (1) the colors matched my car, and (2) really decided to purchase it because when I saw demos and read reviews. This thing is sweet to look at, easy to play, and sounds absolutely wonderful. I own many guitars, and this one ranks way up there regardless of pricepoint.

I got the rat rod in black as a birthday gift, and it is actually better than I was hoping for. The crew at Sweetwater sent it to me properly set up and it was ready to play right out of the box. Being my first hollow body guitar, I was worried about feedback when the reverb was turned up. Turns out it can handle it fine. I love the built in tremolo bleed also, gives the sound an read more eerie undertone. I have only been playing for two years and this is easily the best guitar I have played.

Get off the fence, this thing is incredible.

I was looking to get a Gretsch for a while. Initially, I dismissed the Rat Rod as some gimmick like the Les Paul Voodoo from years back. But I revisited it, and the more I looked into it and saw videos of people with nothing but praise for the G5410T, I finally opted to do it. I couldn't be happier. The guitar is gorgeous. The matte white with the black binding is striking, and read more those red pickups pop. Most importantly, it plays awesome and sounds excellent plugged in whether clean, crunched up, or loaded with way too many effects. It's a joy to play, it absolutely scratched the Gretsch itch while also being it's own unique thing. I love it, and have ZERO regrets.

Sound is amazing. Comfortable to play. I can sit in the living room and play acoustically or plugged in. The dirty channel on my little Orange 20RT I keep in the living room is just nasty with this thing.

Just Beautiful and Cool

Let's face it. If you're considering this guitar then you're in a specific market. It's a Gretsch, and as a long time player of classic Gretsch's this isn't a departure at its core. It has a similar profile and feel to a legit 6120, and the matching headstock put this over the top on my (must have) list. Electromatics are just great in general, and this is no exception. I received read more this guitar from Sweetwater a couple weeks ago. I'm still dialing in the setup to my liking. The pickups are a bit darker than my Electromatic Double Jet and 6120 with TV Jones PUs, but they sound good (great on some things). I'm sure they can be adjusted to to sound great all around, and I'll start experimenting with repositioning them soon. Gretsch just doesn't disappoint, and this guitar is so cool and looks so good. I have the Matte Vintage White, and for now it has squelched my desire for a White Falcon. Special thanks to Skyler McGlothlin, my Sales Engineer, for outstanding service. Like Gretsch Guitars, Skyler and Sweetwater never disappoint.

I saw another reviewer had a terrible experience with one of these, and he's right: Gretsch does not always have the best quality control. That's where the good guys at Sweetwater come in. Don't settle for a lemon. Anyway, I love this guitar. It sounds great and feels great. The only thing keeping me from playing it all the time is the fact that my youngest son loves to swipe read more it whenever he can. I have the gray one. Best looking guitar I own (or maybe ever have). The black one looks good too. The white one? Not so much.

Brass Knuckles with a Bigsby

I love this guitar. From buzzsaw tube-crunched rockabilly tones to full-bodied twang, you want it you got it. The gorgeous silver almost-matte finish leaves only the brash red pickups as a giveaway that there's a wolf lurking inside it. In terms of quality it punches above its price point, with better tuning stability and quieter pickups than guitars costing almost twice as much. read more I also have to mention the experience of buying guitars at Sweetwater. In the past I'd never dream of buying a guitar online; I'm that annoying guy who sits in the shop trying to work out minute differences between every one in stock. But I knew my sales engineer (Bob) would pick a good one for me, and he did. Also, I'm used to guitars showing up with at least one setup issue that could be improved upon. but I didn't have to adjust a single thing on the instrument. Couldn't be happier.

Rat rods rule

I've had this guitar for four months now, and don't regret pulling the trigger. My first Gretsch , and I love it. I've collected somewhere north of 35 different guitars now and this one is firmly in my top five. The fit and finish were superb. I've not had to adjust anything on this guitar. The bigsby works great. I did upgrade to my strings of choice and hit the fretboard with read more some formula 65 lemon oil. I love the matt finish too. Look ma, no fingerprints. Lol I you have any doubts, go for it. You won't regret it.
